One for the girls...
03 May 2013, 08:41
Have any other female 5:2ers noticed any changes with their periods since starting this WOE? I'm on the contraceptive pill so wouldn't really have expected any change, but I've been getting a lot of random days where my period starts out of nowhere! I've noticed this is often the day after a fast.

Any ideas? Or am I just odd

No I don't think you are odd! I am approaching 50 (yikes) so it is hard to tell if my changes are to do with "the change" or 5:2 but I am pretty sure it is 5:2. I had very regular but short cycles (24-26 days) and now I have had a 35 and this month still counting. ....
It is great for me as I suffer from anaemia so the less I have the better however, having said that I worry about my iron levels with less food. I had a test just before I started so I am going to have another in a month or so to see - I feel ok though. I also have much less pmt which is also a plus.
As I am so old.... these things don't concern me too much but for women still planning to have babies I think they should be a little bit careful they are still getting the nutrition they need.

I've had one period since starting 5:2 and noticed that a few of my symptoms were milder. Milder cramps, less constipation and a bit less water retention. Next period is coming up so I'll see if this is the start of a pattern.

I had two periods, both on the day I was expecting them (I'm on the pill). The first one was OK but the second one really hit me on the head! Cramps, migraine, water retention... eeeeeeeeeek!!!

Mine have shifted to a day earlier than normal (am on the pill), but also finish earlier. They usually come without warning now, normally I'd have a cramp or that particular 'queasy but not in my tummy' achey feeling just before starting - I don't get that any more. They're much easier now on the whole and I don't get any breakthrough bleeding like I sometimes used to a few days after I'd finished (TMI, sorry).

I have PCOS and I have had an improvement in this area. My cycle is now 24-26 days which is a huge improvement on 13-29 days. I still have some problems with pain but more at ovulation as opposed to TOTM that is part and parcel of having cysts. I very little bloating, breast tenderness is completely gone. I have only been fasting for about three months so still early days but I am very happy with how things are going so far.
