Benefits & Side Effects

Hi everyone

Usually my fast days are fine, I prefer staying in and working because it's easier than being tempted. My concentration isn't as good but I still get stuff done. I feel very very cold but rely on water and tea (with a dash of milk) until dinner, around 6pm.

I usually don't exercise on fast days but started the 30 Day Shred yesterday and did Taekwondo in the evening, so I've been aware that my body is achey today.

Today seemed no different until about an hour ago. I started to feel a bit off, a little weak, so I decided to make my dinner early. Usually I feel hungry but push through but this was different, I got the shakes. Trying to cook was interesting as my hands would not stop shaking! My mind felt fine but my body felt very weak. I ended up having a bigger portion (was 153cal for one, so I just had the other portion as well) just to fill me up.

I just wanted to ask if anyone else has had this happen? I think it's just because I overate this weekend and then cut calories/exercised loads in the past two days. I'm assuming my body just went into shock?
I can't answer as to why it happened, hopefully somebody else will have some answers. I just noticed your post and I'm concerned and hope you are feeling better now? :frown:
your blood sugar might have got unusually low - a glucose tablet would fix that for a few calories.

or you may be low on electrolytes in which case don't hold back the salt and if just taking liquids consider an isotonic drink.

Aww thank you for your concern! I'm okay, just tired. I'm hoping that a night's sleep will set me right. Just worried about it happening again!

I thought it might be my blood sugar levels, that's why I ate immediately. Never thought to take tablets?
Going to sound very silly now but what are electrolytes? And what is an isotonic drink? Perhaps I should do some research!
What is the exercise " 30 day shred" could that have had an effect on how you've felt today?
I'm glad you are feeling better. :)
I don't know if you have gatorade in UK but it's a sports drink in the US. It has lots of sugar and sodium to "supposedly" help replenish your electrolytes. There are also sports water's that have the same claims without the sugar.

A spoonful of honey and a cup of bouillon will do the same thing without all the artificial colors and flavors of the sports drinks.
Hi Beth, do you have a salty drink on a fast day? I have swiss marigold vegetable boullion which you can get in the supermarket. I drink it about 2pm when I am starting to feel rather feeble usually! I feel totally great afterwards. From reading other posts i think it must be the salt.

It's a Jillian Michaels exercise DVD, you do 10 days per level (I only started yesterday). It's a fairly standard sort of workout (cardio/strength/abs) for approximately 20 minutes. I haven't pushed myself too hard with it and it's only short, but maybe it has had an effect :/ It's certainly worked more of my muscles than a normal gym session!

I reckon that paired with 2 intense hours of Taekwondo last night might have shocked my body a bit, but I've never crashed from exercise before and I've definitely done more intense exercise before! So a bit confused really, haha (:

I never drink sports drinks, I'm normally only a water/tea/alcohol drinker! Not big on juice or energy drinks or anything else, really. But I'll keep that in mind. I can do a spoonful of honey though. Perhaps I should put it in my tea occasionally?

I don't usually but I'll keep that in mind! Thanks for the advice :)
if you have blood sugar control issues you should see your GP, 4 or 5g of glucose will double your blood sugar for 20 calories www.boots.com/en/GlucoTabs-Orange-Flavo ... ets_51122/ www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/glucotabs-ora ... -40g-12903

An isotonic (sports) drink contains the same soluble salts (electrolytes) concentration as your blood, so it doesn't dilute. A swig of that would help with blood sugar and salt deficiency (within reason).

Electrolytes are soluble things like sodium and potassium - the concentration of these affects the volume and pressure of your bloodstream.
Yes I think you may be right - could be that the exercises + taekwondo + fasting today was a bit of a shock to the body. Its all about trial & error with this WOE & listening to your body cos no day is the same. Hope you're feeling better now
