I have lost over a stone now and the place I really want to lose is my waist, but its hardly moved. It must be to do with my age 65,but surely it must move eventually,I am still very happy though as its gone from my midriff and my arms .

Maybe some exercise to tone your middle might help, I got a really cheap DVD called "10 Minute Soultion - Target Toning for Beginners" and if you can ignore the smiling American trainer without an ounce of fat talking about your "six pack" and at one point "guns" it does what it says in the title

Hi Sian thank you I just had a quick look on YouTube and yes it looks ok but have you ever notice these young girls with 6 packs are always straight up and down with no waist shaped more like a male

I am not sure if you can control where it goes from, but for me 5:2 seems to have affected my waist most. I am a pear and would really like to start losing some of my ample hips - I am assuming (hoping!) that at some point it will have to go from there eventually. However, I think if your basic shape is hippy or straight up straight down, that won't change so i will always have some padding there unless I become really skinny which I don't want... Keep going, it might come off all of a sudden, I lost an inch in a week once.

I have been getting the same results as you, Mrs H-R - I've lost an inch off my waist as well, which I wasn't really expecting. I looked in the mirror one day and thought to myself "I swear my waist looks smaller than it used to..." and lo and behold, it had indeed gotten smaller. I tend to do a lot of heavy lifting and stuff like that at work, so I have no idea if that helped with it or not, but I'm not complaining. It might just be that it ends up being one of the last places to come off for you, instead of the first like ours was.

Hi. I'm 60 yo female. I'm losing it across shoulders!! My waist not changing much either although belly gone down a bit. I've lost close to 4 kgs though so I'm pleased. Keep it up Carol

Hi - I'm 55 and although I'm losing weight slowly but steadily my waist measurement is very reluctant to reduce itself, most seems to be coming from my thighs and hips. My thinking is that I've got so much to lose (5.5 stone in total and I'm over half way there) that my waist could well be one of the last ones to go - it's got a lovely layer of protective fat round it, why would that want to go anywhere (hee hee!) Let's all carry on regardless - we WILL get rid of it (I hope) eventually

Mine started going off my hips first but now I'm at 32 inch waist which I'm very happy with. I started at 37 so goes to show it will happen, I also recommend the ten min ab solutions, six sessions to chhoose from so you don't get bored and they really do help. Got mine from amazon. About a fiver.
Keep going it will happen The most annoying fat is always the last to go!

My aim is to get my height/waist ratio within normal limits...or should I say healthy limits.
I have been losing very slowly from my waist, but hey I have a waist...something I've never had before even when I was called a walking beanpole at school!
I've always had to buy a bigger size in trousers to accommodate my waist, and then the bum is too baggy.
I'm loving the fact that the waist of my trousers is now sitting comfortably, and higher on a waist!

Hi Ladies,
I'm no expert but I think if you are post menopausal then your body likes to hold on to its fat round the waist as this is where most of your residual oestrogen is stored.
Also, if you have had children, postmenopausal or not, another factor may be important here - most women who have had children have a mild Diastasis Recti or DR (where your 6 pack never closed properly after childbirth -its more common than you think and hugely effects waist size) - it needs special non-crunch exercises to put it back together and a 'normal' stomach crunch exercise workout will make a DR situation worse as it stretches the ligaments between the two sides of the six pack. Wendy Powell at http://www.mutusystem.com is a mine of useful info on how to mend a DR - and it doesn't matter how old you are, you CAN still improve your DR!

Quick question, and I don't mind if it sounds dumb. I'm the dreaded apple shape and really want to lose the fat around my tum. My weight's going down slowly but steadily but nothing coming off my waist. And yet my trousers seem a bit looser, so I'm thoroughly confused.
I've read that one measures around the belly button but - and here's the dumb q - do you suck your tum in when measuring? I try to stand normally, all relaxed and bulgy, but I'm not at all sure I'm comparing like with like each week.
Maybe I should stop measuring and obsessing, and trust the trousers!

Hi shachat ha ha I know what you mean ,I try to measure just standing normal not breathing in

I'm not sure where I read this, sorry, but I'm pretty sure they said it can take 6 months (or longer)to really reduce visceral fat as opposed to subcutaneous fat.
I'm somewhat of a pear; when I lost weight before, it usually started with my bust and shoulders, then waist, hips and then thighs--from top to bottom. My midriff-waist became more stubborn as I passed through menopause. Also, since my daughter was born (my age 38), I've had that ab-separation thing and don't do crunches.
The hip movements of Zumba are what gave me back a waist. Lifting the hips in dance moves, slow and fast hip rolls, pelvic thrusts, pulling the belly in, and doing body rolls works the core in an easy, natural way. I think belly dance and cardio dance do a lot of the same moves. Sorry if I sound like an evangelist, but if it can help a 60+ year old woman like me, it can help anyone!
Check out some youtube videos to see how to do it at home.

I am an apple and although I am thrilled with my weight loss
my waist has never gone back to anywhere near it's pre-menopausal measurement.
I am now the same, or even lighter, than I was as a young woman but my waist is at least 4" larger than it used to be at this size.
Ah well, not a lot I can do about it, just be grateful I'm still here, healthy and still have the ability to moan
