sleeplessness
13 Jul 2013, 15:15
I have been thinking about this, because difficulty sleeping has been the only downside of 5.2 for me (well - itchy, but talked about that elsewhere).
I slept badly last weekend on feed days because of the heat, and was yawning like mad on Monday at work. Monday was a fast day and as usual I didn't find it easy to get to sleep that night, but on Tuesday I felt great - not tired at all.
I was considering that the body is supposed to do its repair work while you are asleep - maybe it needs less repair time due to the fasting. Perhaps we shouldn't worry about it unless we feel tired during the day.
Interested in anyone else's experience.

Couldn't sleep last night until 3ish. Realised
a) I'd eaten 2 squares of 85% chocolate late evening so there was a sugar rush;
b) it was VERY hot in the bedroom;
c) Friday night is very busy/noisy with clubbers until 3ish;
d) I was thinking too much.

Got up and drank some water, put the fan on, settled myself back down, slept.

Hi:

My sleep is uneven. Some fast nights I don't sleep well, some I do. I've found no pattern. But I have noticed, to my surprise, when I don't sleep well I am just fine the next day - like you, not tired at all. Interesting. :confused:

I have had many sleepless nights recently, and finally realized why. I've been drinking green tea instead of water, even until late in the evening, Duh!!! Since I went back to just water I've been better. I find on fast days, though, my hunger still somewhat keeps me up and all I can think about is what I'm going to eat the next day. Surprisingly, I usually wake up not wanting to eat until later in the day.

I always sleep less after a fast day but it's better than it was initially. Now I make sure that I eat all my calories in the evening, that I do some exercise in the afternoon/at lunch, that I don't drink coffee etc after about 2pm and that I don't go to bed until I'm tired, which is way later than usual. I have to say I try to plan fast days for the days I have a lot to do as I find I can work half the night then get up as usual the following morning, so as it doesn't effect me adversely I quite like the sleeplessness!

Hmmm...that is interesting kfort13. I drink a lot of green tea. I have lots of sleeplessness issues; but, I always did even before 5:2. (This is pretty common with thyroid issues which I also have.) The thing that is perplexing is that most green tea is caffeine free. Not sure whether there is anything other than the caffeine that might exacerbate the insomnia. I drink a lot of mandarin orange green tea, Lipton brand.
