... Just add them here or on the current book thread. I will put a poll up next weekend so people will be able to vote for their favourite by the end of the month

So far ...

The Cuckoo's Calling - JK Rowling
Gone girl - Gillian Flynn
The Luminaries - Eleanor Catton
Half of a yellow sun - Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
I've got a few books on my Kindle I should get around to reading, so maybe if you picked one of those it would kill two birds with one stone for me!

They are:
The Garden of Evening Mists by Tan Twan Eng
The Long Song by Andrea Levy
The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini
I'm just finishing Instructions on a Heatwave by Maggie O'Farrell and can't recommend it enough, just brilliant!
I'm not in the book club, but have just read Barbara Kingsolver's 'Pigs in Heaven', and would recommend it!
Hi all! Will add these to the list

Welcome @annurca - we're not exclusive (unlike some other threads    ) you just have to be able to

1. Read
2. Eat copious amounts of cake
3. Talk knowledgeably about what you've read
4. And talk even more knowledgeably about what you've eaten / are about to eat / would like to eat

Totally agree A Pigs in Heaven is brill but there is a prequel The Bean Tree..
I didnt find it til i'd read P in H x
@Silverdarling, I'm qualified in three of the four, I'll leave you to guess which!
@CandiceMarie, thank you, I didn't know that, and it will make a good (am I allowed to say Christmas yet?!)present for my OH, who enjoys Barbara Kingsolver.
Oooh -er! Missed that one - too busy planning my mother's 80th birthday bash with my sister! well that puts it in pole position then ...
Oh no, I fail on one of the club's criteria! Could I substitute crisps and peanuts for cake?

The mountains echoed is good. Will look up Andrea Levy to see what it's about, getting confused with Marc Levy. I do enjoy a Barbara Kingsolver. Am reading an old Stephen King, The Stand, at the moment but it's a long book.

On a previous thread about books somebody talked about World war z and said it was about zombies. Well it is but it's not at all silly and is an interesting read. If you watched the film the only resemblance it bears is its name.
The Luminaries is a huge book - may put off some people who don't have much time
Yes Lil I just looked and it is a huge book, didn't make my kindle any heavier though
I just read the best Swedish book I have read in a long time: A Man Called Ove [Perfect Paperback] by Fredrik Backman. It's fun, it's hilarious, it'sa sad, moving and so fantastic. I laid in bed giggling at times and shed a tear or two at times. It might not be sophisticated literature (and such I have a hard time to stand), but all at work who had read it agree - it's a great read. And no, you don't have to learn Swedish, there is an English translation at Amazon.uk
Now I'm going to start on "My grandma send her greetings and say she's sorry" (Min mormor hälsar och säger förlåt).

Otherwise - have you read The seamstress of Kabul? Also a great and real story.

It turned out that there are many readers at work, so we are hopefully going to start some sort of swap thing.
