I love Jenny Colgan's books. I made some of the Christmas recipes out of the cupcake cafe book last year and told her on FB, Christina Jones is another fab author if you want something light and funny. She writes about antics of village life in the Hubble Bubble series of books and I am always laughing out loud.
I have just finished Distant Hours by Kate Morton and loved that too. set in two time periods it flits between the two stories and it was great.

Sorry to have caused confusion @carieoates I wanted to mention the Roosevelt special on the same thread as SD and I mentioned him before.
On the topic of books: Does anyone know the mystery series by Jim Kelly set in the Fens? I've read a few now and am really blown away by the characters and setting. Here's an interview with Kelly about the Fens with a blogger http://jsydneyjones.wordpress.com/2011/ ... the-paper/ Sometimes you almost have to laugh out loud in spite of the seriousness of the plot.

Have any of you Aussies read Liane Moriarty? She is a fabulous chronicler of modern womanhood, and her books are all set in Australia. =) I just finished her new one (Big Little Lies) this week!
And Kate Atkinson's books-- I'm reading her first Jackson Brodie mystery (Case Histories) now. I definitely recommend Life After Life if you haven't already read it!

Thank you for all the recommendations, I'm always keen to find new books. I get a bit greedy when I find a good book and tend to devour it as I would a bar of chocolate and not stop until I get to the end!
I also tend to read entire series of books one after the other and have done a couple of times recently when I find a good one. I always feel a bit bereaved after I have finished a really absorbing one and it normally takes me a few days to find another one! Anyone else have that feeling of loss?!

@CandiceMarie I have Christina Jones as a friend on FB and she is brilliant on there too. Then again I have mainly authors and comedians and all are great.
@ewoodwor If you like Laine Moriarty I can also recommend Rachel Hore and Kate Morton. Both brilliant too. I also love Diane Chamberlain. Her books often make me gasp and cry.
