Oh my God that picture reminds me of my first job. When I was in High School I worked in at Brighams Ice Cream where they also had a candy counter. Well, I loved making ice cream sundae's but I loved working behind the candy counter more because for every pound of fudge I cut I probably ate half of it! They also had roasted salted pecans to die for. I don't see those anywhere anymore.
I don't know how you resisted Silverdarling, you're obviously made of stern stuff! I love fudge but had never heard of tablet, will have to keep that in mind. There's a lovely place called Beechworth, the best preserved 1850s gold era town here in Victoria, where they have a fabulous sweet shop with a fabulous fudge and nougat counter (admittedly smaller than the one in your photo). It's probably fortunate that I only visit there every couple of months or so...
Msherring u r terrible :-* i LOVE fudge..used to make it as a kid, but all that sugar freaks me out now...i am fasting and drooling :-\

We will be going to Little Nashville and I have specifically planned to visit to one of the Fudge shops there. Yes. Plural as there is more than one Fudge shop there!

Oh, and I have never had nor even heard of tablet! Aside from the Galaxy Tab 2 I am typing on right now, I mean.

@43tweaker that looks like my kind of place - (apart from the mountain bikes and zipwires  ) lots of arty crafty shops, bakeries etc - for the minute I thought you meant Nashville Tennessee though!

@AiriR if I had been on my own, would have lingered much longer (no that's not being honest - would have dived in nose first!!!    ) as it was, I was on a direct course behind my mum straight to the cashmere halls and shoe department ...

@GMH my heart goes out to you   well I discovered that TABLET is nearly all sugar, whereas FUDGE is large part fat - so hence much better for us 5:2ers healthwise....
(Hmmm not sure @caroreeswould agree with that one though :starving:  )

@clairemarie one of my great aunts worked in an old fashioned sweet shop in St Ann's Square, centre of Manchester ... i can remember being taken along and choosing round lollipops with picture in the middle (like boiled sweets) and also fudge, toffee, caramel, and at Easter, Easter eggs ...
Oh wow!!

chocolate fudge, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm love it!!!

:-)
Haha..fat is good but fat and sugar is really really bad...

I'm going to buck the trend and say fudge and tablet do little for me, but cake...that's different!
... i somehow thought that is what you'd say Caroline - but at least you can have your cake ... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Just put an apple cake in the oven as it happens! Was strong and did not lick the spoon or bowl! My 16 fasting hours are not yet over, but looking forward to a slice this afternoon!

My nod to cutting down on sugar was that I made it with a quarter less sugar than the recipe asked for. ;-)
what is tablet????
@GMH

http://scruss.com/tablet.html Note the last sentence

And I'm sure @janeg will be along soon to add her version ...
Quiet Caroline I have been resisting making applecake for about two weeks now. I love love love it!

It is my kind of place, too. When I win the lottery I'm going to open one of those crafty boutiques. There will be no mountain bikes or ziplines for me. But, we will be hiking, possibly horseback riding at the state park and lots and lots of walking and window shopping. Then, there are the restaurants...one place has the best fried biscuits and homemade applebutter!!! We go there every fall.
