I am SO bored
23 Oct 2013, 13:32
I work from home and usually the days pass quickly. But today is one of those endless days, when the chutney is cooking and I am thoroughly bored.
I need a hobby! Something to do! Or else I will go stir crazy (that's no joke when you have chutney to stir!).
I was looking forward to lunch out tomorrow, but friend has cancelled as she has a nail appointment.

So, I'm looking for your suggestions, please! Give me some challenges, some distractions, some interesting things to do.

Over to you.....

I'm making my Christmas cake but not a good idea on a fast day. I knit, read and garden.

How about downloading an audio book to some device or other and listening to it while you do some boring chore: dusting, cleaning countertops, etc.?

I know what you mean about boredom, though,--got to keep the old mind occupied while stuck at home.

Hope you get some good ideas here! :)

When I'm bored, I read, go for a walk, bake a cake (non f/day)
sewing, and I've just discovered angry birds now this will kill the boredom very addictive and time consuming, try that one for starters if you've extra time to spare :clover: Sue :clover:

Hi Penny! I am assuming youre stuck indoors on chutney duty,so I' m trying to think of things within the home
Do you have a neighbour you could invite over for a cuppa and a natter?

Have you any library books lying unread, coz youve been too busy..if so,curl up with it..

Its such an autunmy curl up cosy day..why not decide to have a slob out time..make a cuppa and put the radio on ( i am listening to Howards End on Radio 4 Extra as i type)...or look on tv catch up for good stuff you may have missed

Any phone calls you need to make? Ring a friend for a good old chat? X X

Do you play an instrument that you haven't touched in a while? I recently re-discovered my love for playing the piano and hours fly by when I am playing it. You could also organize your closets/drawers, etc. Or you could write an old fashion letter to a friend that you haven't seen in a while!

Loving these suggestions! Thank you all!
Any ideas for things to do outside of home would also be welcome.
Most of my friends work, (just because I do so from home, they don't quite consider it 'work'!!) so I lead a generally solitary existence 9 - 5 Monday to Friday.

I also can't commit to doing anything on a regular basis, as sometimes I have rush orders etc. and then I'm too busy to leave the kitchen, let alone the house!

On the whole, I am a happy little bunny, though.

Keep 'em coming, please

Any galleries or museums nearby you had forgotten about?
Walking
Cinema (cheap during the day)
If you have an iPad or similar, download scrabble and play against the computer. Also candy crush.

Bored and in pain. Too much pain to be able to go to my shed, or do much more than watch the TV.

But the making phone calls is a good idea. I haven't called my step-mum in ages.

I caught up with the paperwork earlier on. I would like to do some DIY I now have the parts for, but can't move well enough or have enough control of my hands to do so (my pressure sensitivity is off due to numbness, so I can't hold tools safely). I want to totally re-decorate my lounge but I haven't got any ideas of what colours to do. I may just romp around Pinterest to see what comes up.

Hubby highly recommend the U3A, something there for everyone and classes/groups are usually in the daytime. Is there a branch locally that you could join?

Boxsets on DVD or download
Knitting or baking project
Reading
Walking (if you can leave the house)
Eating lunch out on your own or a cinema matinee (I love doing both)
Gym or exercise DVD
Read a daily newspaper cover to cover

I also work from home and when I need a break the walking is my favourite activity. Often I will walk to the library and read for an hour.

Few more thoughts
Any interesting local art galleries/craft centres/garden centres/ museums you could visit?

I don't know how I ever managed to fit work in as I seem to be busier than ever since I retired! I do aquacise, zumba toning and am just home from my weekly stint in an AGEUK charity shop. I know you said you can't commit to anything on a regular basis but I'm sure local charities would welcome any time you could spare to help, even on an ad hoc basis. x
