Yesterday, in Sainsbury's, I was behind a young guy, who's only purchase was a bottle of whisky - and he had what at first glance I thought was a bank passbook on the conveyor belt, with the bottle - turned out to be his passport.
I struck up a conversation with him, and he made the point that having his passport ready saved him a lot of trouble. We had a brief conversation for a couple of minutes - just to pass the time whilst waiting.
When he received his receipt, the checkout girl said, "There's a credit voucher for your next visit." He took a look at it and passed it straight over to me, saying "You'll make better use of this than I will - I never come in to Sainsbury's." The voucher was for £4.50!
I tried to refuse, but he wouldn't take it back - and off he went. How nice was that?
Different tack:
This morning on the way into town on the bus I asked a young man to take his feet off the chair in front of him - which he did and apologised.
On the way back I asked an older bloke to leave the bus shelter since he was smoking - and he did and he apologised as well!
Finally, for the past 8 weeks I've been doing a series of home-based exercises which includes pull-ups - and I've grown back the inch that I'd lost as I aged. I'm now back at 5'7', which I was as a youngster!
There's life in the old dog, yet!
