What news SD?
Many thanks to all for the responses, that you have taken the time to post - feel very grateful for them, and quite a bit teary and overwhelmed ...it's great have this sort of support, I can't thank you all enough ...
Well, it's still a cliffhanger, which those of you who have worked in the public sector will recognise all too well this morning's meeting ended up being an explanation of context and self justification by the senior manager concerned - without revealing any detail - just broad-brush stuff
We were told that there would be no redundancies, which is something - in response to a question about salaries, they didn't deny that there could be some people who would have to take a cut. Protected for 3 years, but then a cut. We still don't know what the individual jobs are, or whether people will be slotted in or have to reapply - could mean a number of people chasing the same job, as they would be in danger of a paycut if they didn't choose to do that. Apparently an email will come out with the detail at the end of the week (just in time for my Mum's party ) and the 'process' (their word) will start in earnest next week and be completed by mid December (although the HR person pulled a face on hearing the senior manager say this )
Everyone feels pretty fed up and alienated with the whole thing ... I think I need the distraction of the next few days, and hopefully will be so busy that I won't have time to think or brood. I could check my emails remotely, but may wait until after the weekend. So to be continued ...

All the best, SilverDarling. We can tell you are a valuable employee just from "hearing" you on this forum. Hope the powers that be can tell it, too.
Fingers, eyes and legs crossed for you SD xxx
The HR bod will be concerned about due process and the timescales will be driven by the number of people impacted. Which is why she may have pulled a face because if there is more than 20 roles nvolved and less than 99 its supposed to be 30 days consultation before the first change (or termination). More than 99 roles and it's 45 days.
Having said all of that and putting the certainty aside, without knowing the final process, it sounds like they have thought it through and protected rights on salary for 3 years is amazing compared to the private sector.
I would enjoy your mums party and not read your emails until next week, as you will be riven by process, criteria etc etc, which is the last thing you want on your mind this weekend.
Hope it turns out well for you SD.

Lots of positive vibes to you, SD. What a horrible situation and in this sample, how common! No one should have to go through that kind of uncertainty.
hi Silverdarling,
Glad it sort of went ok in the end, i can sympathise with you as i am too working in the public sector at the Tate, things have been going downhill for us too, at the moment our jobs are safe, or so they tell us.. There were redundancies about 2 years ago, just when they announced major refurbishement which have just been completed... We have the union on our side, so for now we plod along lol...
I really hope things turn out ok for you, they have to! Take care xx

Good Luck Silverdarling.
My thoughts and prayers are with you totally Sue

Hope that all goes well for you. Enjoy your mum's party as you can't change any of the other stuff at the moment. My husband was pushed out of his job by a bullying boss 11 years ago. At the time it was awful but it proved to be a blessing in the long run. Sending you lots of positive thoughts xx

Yes Karen I think so re HR person's response - notice also depends on each individual's length of service. 4 years ago when my last post was deleted, there was a 90 day consultation period. The 3 years protected salary is a standard working conditions thing and I think it must be in the Purple Book (or whatever they call it these days) so it is some buffer. But while I appreciate these are better than in the private sector, the other side of the coin is that the average salary is not. After 29 years, I earn less than my 24 year old nephew, who's worked for 2 years in a digital media company in London. And a lot of others earn a lot less.
And yes, I am mentally putting this aside now, and at least I will have other things to concentrate on over the next few days, which will keep things in proportion.
And @CandiceMarie please uncross your legs and go to the loo - it's a long time to wait with them crossed until next week ...
Thanks to you all I can't say how much your comments have touched me
Agghhh.. long reply drafted....gone... basically, keep hard copies of everything.
Enjoy Mum's party
We're all here for you xx
