The DH bought himself a new toy in the fall - a http://westfield-sportscars.co.uk replica and have been working on it from the inside and out ever since. Since he plan to take it (and me LOL) to shows, I got an idea of trying to make myself something typical fashionable from round 1957. I can't imagine that I would find anything in vintage shops in my size, so I have to sew. But what? And how to get pattern/s? Sugestions and ideas will be very much appreciated.

You must be able to get patterns as someone on Sewing bee last week did a 60's style dress.
Here's what ebay search found. Most in USA.

I have some friends who wear most fifties style dresses and they get them off the internet. If you want to make them I'm sure there would be patterns out there. I'll have a scout about and see what I can find.
This link looked interesting, giving tips on makeup and everything 50s. http://www.20thcenturyfoxy.com/en/1950s/a32
How fun!!! No help, but I would love to see pictures when you're done!
Thank you all so much for your help. My initial in stink is to go with a pencil skirt thing, but hey - can you imagine getting into the car dressed in one? This is a car with no real doors and with racing seats, so you have to climb/slide....Imagine, in my age?? Hehe, I would have to bunch up the dress round the middle then, not very lady like. Maybe I ought to go with capri pants and a twin set? Scarf around the head and sun glasses? Well, will see will see. Maybe I just ought to focus to loose weight so I do't get stuck in that danged scalloped seat? ROFLMAO.
Had a quick look on the old google and found this on pintrest, not sure if it's the sort of thing ya after, but some nice designs! http://www.pinterest.com/RuthPolarBear/ ... t-crochet/
Hi Wolfie, I like http://heartmycloset.myshopify.com/ for the occasional retro outfit. You send your measurements and they custom make for you. The Mad Men range is kind of fun.
On a completely different topic, how did you go with your son and his summer volunteering?
I think your capri outfit sounds perfect!
I agree with Tracieknits and think your capri outfit sounds very chic and will look fabulous

We have found a (seemingly) great place in South Africa. Sam has admitted his application, CV and personal letter to the school and all we can do now is hope. Here in Sweden it's not allowed for parents to pay for school things (free schooling due to verrrrry high taxes we pay) so the school apply for funds...So cross your fingers and hope folks
Oh my - look what I found: https://sovintagepatterns.3dcartstores.com/VINTAGE-PATTERNS-1950s_c_13.html
All these dresses are marvelous! Didn't find any good pattern fro Capri pants though....To me Capris are tight trousers that ends a bit beneath the knee, with a small zipper or buttons at the side...Have to keep on looking. Twin sets ought to be easier to find - neh?

It's been nostalgic and fun for me to look at these 1950's styles--I was 16 in 1957 and remember it well. Those knitted bathing suits! In the late forties I took my first swimming lessons wearing a green and white wool knitted two-piece--a little scratchy, actually. I think many bathing suits were of knitted wool then.
Have fun with this, wolfie, I think the capri pants outfit would do very well. I remember that in the 50's young girls were still wearing "dungarees" rolled up with bobby socks, but you probably want to look more adult than teen.
