THE 5:2 DIY TENT
01 Mar 2014, 11:00
This one is for @Silverdarling , @Wildmissus , @Debs , @Pennyforthem, @Julieathome and any other budding painters or artists that wish to join us.

I shall kick this one off withe my home-made loose covers and the drawing above it was also done by me, tired out now. What do you all make?

Wow! That's all I can say!
When we got our first caravan, I recovered all the seats and made new curtains, piped with satin! The curtain holders were also piped. When we sold it, the salesman commented on it, saying it wouldn't take long to sell - and it didn't!

Thanks penny, isn't it amazing how simple things like piping can make all the difference?

@Ballerina, you are definitely talented. Loose covers certainly take some doing.

I'll be back later with some photos.

Ok @Ballerina, some hastily taken pictures, they aren't very good pictures as I'm hopeless at photos.

The first one is of our lounge. We stripped out the open fireplace and OH installed the stove all by himself. I bought a lump of oak from ebay and got one of our carpenter neighbours to cut it down to size and sand it and it is now the floating shelf. You can also see from the reflection in the mirror that the back wall is orange.

Up the other end of the hall we have the bathroom which we did up 3 years ago. I didn't want a bathroom like everybody else's and not in traditional colours so the whilst the tiles are natural the walls are light gold and the floor is a bright orange. When we first finished it I kept shouting at the girls to turn the lights off but they were off!

The last picture is our bedroom complete with 2 tiddles who shouldn't be there! I made the curtains not that long ago, they have a 'wave' heading, so they are staying. The little stained glass mirror that is reflected onto the back wall was made by one of OH's postman workmates.

Hope you like what you have seen so far.

Wow, thank you, oh, I love this just love seeing how lovely other folk can make their homes. Your bedroom colours are lovely, very warm, and don't you just love cats? They always find the most comfortable place to bed down, and I don't blame them. The fire place is really nice, hubs keeps on about a log burner in our large lounge, ( the white sofa is in the small lounge, can't sit in there with the horrible wallpaper and border that I couldn't seem to live without all those years ago ) but I love just being able to flick a switch and have instant heat.

Your mirror looks very Rennie Mcintosh-ish, lovely and is that a stencil you have done? Always admire folk who are brave enough to do stencils, mine always look as though a toddler was let loose with a box of mum's make up. I have to ask, what is a 'wave heading'. Not come across that one before or is it a pet name of yours?

You have a really good touch and eye for colour so I envy you that, I'm just boring with colour. Keep up the good work

Thank you, it was a Christmas present and it was sitting on a slight shiny surface so I tried to catch the shadowy reflection hope it worked. I wanted to go to art school but my father forbade it, probably a good thing, made me get a proper job

The biggest problem I have these days is that I work in an independent furniture shop which also sells flooring, and fabric and no sooner have I done a room then something better comes along in the shop!

The cats are off the bed now so I'll give it a hoover and shut the door. The log burner is on and they are in front of it.

I like pinch pleat/triple pleat curtain heading as it gives you a nice neat finish but the new wave heading is like the eyelet heading without the eyelets -

It is the universal tempo.

The birds in the bathroom are actually vinyl wall stickers. In our old house I stencilled the mirrored wardrobe doors with spray glass etch in a greek key design. I also cut out a daisy from acetate and stencilled that on one wall of my daughters bedroom. It was very successful but I was heavy handed so anyone who painted over them would still be able to see there shape.

I love your picture BTW, that is something I just can't do.

Lovely pics all, I especially envy your wood burning stove @Wildmissus. I would love one of those! I will post a couple of my pics that are on the wall at parents house - but need daylight to take the photos
