Today's (Oct 27) storm UK
27 Oct 2013, 13:09
Hi peeps, are any of you, particularly in the SW, feeling the effects of today's predicted gale force winds and storm conditions?
Here in the NW it's been raining on and off all morning, the wind's quite strong and don't think there'll be any leaves left on the trees by tonight, but otherwise a mild autumn day. So far , so good, unless the forecast was right and we'll cop it later! :?:

windy and rainy in the shire... But it's also sunny too :?: Kind of eerie and calm-before-the-storm-like!! I'm hoping for whatever storm business is brewing, it happens through the night... quietly!

The wind has been picking up all day here in London. Has just clouded over.

It's nice and sunny up here in Scotland, but a wee bit windy. Luckily, we won't have to worry about that storm as the main centre of low pressure is expected to take a more southerly track than normal (the normal path of these low pressure systems would be somewhere between Iceland and Scotland, and that is why the associated weather systems will then normally sweep across the whole country and bring all of the bad weather which comes with them).

The expected path of this particular system is expected to be across the spine of England, so that it is only really England and Wales that will be affected by this system, while both Scotland and Northern Ireland remain in the clear (although the west coast of Scotland could still see some showers).

Getting quite gusty winds in Southampton, had some rain. Think it will be a rough night in the South.

In Falmouth, Cornwall, we have had quite a bit of wind and rain yesterday evening, some pretty strong winds earlier, now it's windy with intermittent rain.
I am really worried as my daughter and her partner are driving from Alton towers to Plymouth this evening and then down to here late tonight/early hours of the morning. They've promised to drive slowly, but I am still nervous :frown:

Quick update, it clouded over as I was writing my last post and we have now had a shower of rain. However, that isn't the coming storm that is responsible for that (thank God).

Here is the story on the BBC website about that storm not affecting Scotland. From that, it looks as though it is the south of England and Wales which will be the worst affected areas. Also, anyone on this forum who is in the Low Countries (the likes of Belgium and the Netherlands) and the south of Scandinavia should be warned as well because that storm is then forecast to hit those places as it leaves the UK.

Very wet and windy last night, but bright now with a stiff breeze.
Hub is checking batteries, generator, torches - he doesn't like to leave anything to chance! Bless! We will keep an eye on the stream at the bottom of the garden. It has never flooded, but we do check it.

A fundamentally dry, mild and sunny day here in Shropshire so far. A bit blustery at times, I got a bit buffeted when I ran this morning, but not enough to put me off!!! We've had a couple of 60-second showers which didn't really amount to anything but so far so good. I think it's meant to hit tonight though. I hate windy weather.... it really unsettles me. I dislike it more than a thunderstorm so I think I could be in for a disturbed night, especially as our bedroom is up in the roof eaves so it gets really noisy when it is windy or heavy rain.....

I hate the wind too, especially if I have to drive in it. Once had the driver's door blown completely out of my hand by a strong gust of wind.
