Interesting and educational. I will have to refer back to this. It reminded me that a while back I was reading a post with a word that I couldn't figure out. I guessed that it was about some sort of breakfast pastry, but OH and I were both left scratching our heads. We were in a hurry to get out the door or I would have posted to ask about it.

The Chav test was a good laugh! My daughter was pleased that she scored lower than her parents!!

Peko peko is slang for hungry in Japanese. I thought it might come from peckish, but it is evidently meant to immitate the sound of an empty tummy.

Agree here with Caroline - and what's wrong with having tea?? And I would love to know what the American or Australian equivalent of 'chav' is ... Over to you, peeps, for suggestions?

(19% closet chav  )

Northern monkeys and Southern Softies.... it's more a friendly banter thing. Unless you are in Blackpool on a night out.. when they will gladly punch you for being Southern if they don't want to shag you  (applies to both sexes)

I grew up in the South (Somerset)and moved to the Northwest 10 years ago after I married a northern lass. I get ribbed (teased) most days from the lads in the office. they get it back though.. pie eating, pigeon fanciers the lot of them.

First day at work (after saying hello in a proper farmers zummerzet accent) I was asked where I parked my tractor and can I drive a combine harvester !

All of England dislike Londoners though..bunch of pompous muppets

Hmmm I think maybe the American equivalent of chav is redneck or white trash. Gosh, these are awfully classist terms. I don't like them at all.
