That's hilarious! I love some of the questions, though some are a bit unfair...what's wrong with shopping at the co-op, or going to a state school? And who hasn't relieved a hotel of shower gel?

I clicked on that link thinking there would be a few words that I was probably familiar with. Wow, that's a whole dictionary! This site is not only going to help me lose weight, but it's also going to make me smarter. Now I know what I'm going to be doing to keep myself busy on fast days.

I really like the fact that this site is international. We get to hear about lifestyles that are different from our own and yet we've all come here because of our commonalities.

Although I grew up loving Burberry I never wear this brand in the UK anymore. I do in Greece though and I find it such a pity that it has turned into chav outfit.

It always amuses me how food - in particular vegetable- names change not just between countries, but also between states in Australia. I grew up in Cape Town, with my Mum from East Africa, then spent a few years in the UK before moving to first New South Wales, then Victoria, and now Queensland in Australia. There are quite a few foods which I never know what the bloody hell I'm meant to call them!

I love these discussions!

I am confused about the British use of "muppet". To Americans a muppet is Kermit or Miss Piggy or any other creation of Jim Henson. We adore them!

I gather "muppet" is an insult in the UK, but I can't quite figure what the nuances are. What makes a muppet a muppet?

Also, from the list in the OP, "waffle" can be a verb in the US, meaning to change one's stand on an issue for reasons other than conviction. We often accuse politicians of waffling, especially during electoral campaigns, which seems to be most of the time.

A muppet is someone who's stupid.

To waffle is to talk endlessly.

I have to use the Urban Dictionary alot; when my boys are too embarrassed to explain things to me they tell me to look it up!

I have to add to 'Bobs your Uncle' that the reply to this would be 'and Fannys your Aunt' not sure why, she just is  Fanny is an old fashioned girls familiar name for Frances I think. A Canadian chap did tell me that Bob was my uncle when he heard my British accent. He cracked up (laughed heartily) when I told him that Fanny was his aunt. Didn't believe me though

Oh and 15% Chav
