I just got some Body Shape jeans from M&S I tried all 3 shapes on, and found I'm an Eva apparently. They don't gap at the waist and seem to acomodate my "strong" thighs, but they are maybe a bit high on the waist for Moogie

I have a similar problem. I have large thighs that chaff (sp) terribly if I wear skirts. I went to the chelsea flower show last year with a friend and she wanted to wear a pretty sundressw, so I did away with the jeans for the day, but couldn't wear tights as it was a really hot day. I had to cut the bottoms of a pair, so that my calves were bare, but under the skirt I still had the protection of the tights. So Jeans!! I find sainsburys boot cut ones are good for me. I dont spend a lot of money, A) because it's always my plan to lose weight and they'll end up too big, and B) because of the size of my thighs, they tend to wear out where they rub together.
Hi Moogie
Also try Gap as they do a Curvy fit

Moogie, if you ever go Stateside there is an excellent clothing store and catalogue called L.L.Bean which gives lots of choices on jean styles and different body shapes. They do jeans to fit women with small waists and large thighs (they also do great sized jeans for apples).
Thanks for all the tips everyone, think I'll have a shop around online today and see what looks like my sort of style & fit May pop into M&S over the weekend and try the body shape ones too.
Robnem: I have the exact same problem! I invested in a pair of anti-chafing tights on Ebay, they only come to just above the knees, so ideal for wearing skirts, and they kind of hold your thighs in a bit nicer too. I dream of one day having a gap between my legs, if that makes sense.

I've spent years buying wide leg trousers that then look like boot cut on me. I always have to shorten them anyway as I'm stumpy so vary on where I'm buying.
I do think the market is waking up to the different shapes that women come in. Levis, Gap and even M&S now have a range to fit different shapes.
Belts are now essential as I'm trying to resist buying new trousers until at least the summer.
Actually though, my current favourite pair of officially wideleg jeans (M&S I think) now are no longer tight on the thigh, so perhaps I'm losing off there more than I thought. I still have massive calves though.
For those who are going through a 'mid-size' phase like me who don't want to spend a lot of money as they've still got a long way to go and don't intend to wear the in-between sizes for long, then I'm going to suggest you trawl the charity shops. If you are persistent then you can find some great clothes - sometimes even with the tags still on. There are a lot of women out there who buy clothes and then hardly wear them. In my younger years I was a charity shop manager for a while and really the quality of what we got was great. So I've always used them a lot (never brought a brand new coat for my sons yet). You have to go in regularly though and learn when they put the new stock out. If you've had one of their bags through your door recently then make sure you visit the shop within the fortnight as they'll have had an influx of new stuff.

I find Lanacane anti chafing gel helps with bare bits rubbing
at least in the states, there is a roll on stick that is actually for runners called "Glide" so that when you run a marathon those things that rub together don't get chaffed. My daughter runs half marathons, is tall and thin, and still has to use it in some places.
I've had success with NYDJ jeans, but they are horrendously expensive and don't last long (the stretch bit goes). Levi do a range of Demi curve, curvy and super curvy jeans (hip to waist ratio) which are excellent and better priced. I had a pair but slimmed out of them last year and gave them away... Other than that, I've always altered or had mine altered, and eventually gave up. I own ONE pair of jeans now which are from next and are 13 years old and a size too big. I keep them because they have a lot of happy memories attached, and also because in the winter I can wear long johns under them and true around bonfires and woods nice and cosy
Hello Moogie
I have exactly the same problem with when I am at my smallest wearing size 10 tops & 12/14 bottoms. I buy trousers & jeans from Orvis.co.uk they are a USA based company but have UK shops & you can buy online. The sizes are American so a size smaller needed for the UK. They often have online sales & the quality is good. They have many different jean styles & stretchy close fitting ones. Hope this may be of interest.

I discovered the M&S body shape jeans too a couple of months ago and really like them. Give them a goo Moogie - they should be easy to source (online too) My trick with M&S is order online and have them delivered to my nearest M&S. I then collect them, take them straight to the changing room and if they're no good take them back straight away for a refund. Happy shopping
One more for the 'athletic thighs' that rub together group!
I have had good boot cut jeans from New Look, Dorothy Perkins and Mango, though the mango ones are pretty low cut on the hips. I also have a pair of jeans from Uniqlo which are sort of skinny jeans but not skin tight, and they are pretty flattering with heals. I deal with the too big around waist/too tight on thigh issue by always wearing a belt!

Hi Moogie,
Another pear shape with jeans problems here!
Like some of the other ladies, I also like the M&S Eva Slim Bootleg, which are really flattering, but they do come right up to the waist, which I prefer. They don't have much stretch though.
For comfort, I've never found anything that comes close to NYDJ brand, but they are ridiculously expensive. I bought 1 pair in John Lewis, wore them to death, then once I knew my size and style, bought loads off Ebay for about a quarter of the normal price, but you do really need to try them first and the sizing is in US sizes. I'm normally a UK 16 but can get away with size 8 - 10 in these.
Good luck and let us know if you discover any others.

You can sometimes get Seven jeans in TK Maxx.
I have the opposite problem. Body shape is probably closest to an hour glass but without the uber skinny waist. My hips/thighs are more or less straight and muscular so if I find a pair of jeans that works with my hips, they are too tight on the waist. If I get ones that fit the waist, they are ridiculously baggy on the bum.

The problem with chaffing doesn't come just with size. I have very thin girlfriends who have this problem because of the heat and humidity here in Greece. Even if one's legs don't chaff when they are standing/walking, it will happen the minute they sit down and cross their legs . The solution to this is the very light M&S shapewear. They do mid-thigh shorts which are soooo light, almost like lace but they do prevent any chaffing and they are totally invisible under the clothes. Also, because of their quality, they look like underwear and no man will tell what they truly are!
