I am a pear.
Not just any pear, but a pear with an extreme case of thunder thighs. It runs in my family. Even at size 8 I had tree trunks for legs. Calves are big too really, wellies never fit.

Anyway, for me, shopping for jeans or trousers has always been an ordeal, often verging on tears of frustration. Jeans which fit my smaller waist/hips are always too tight on my thighs. Fits my thoughts? Then the top falls down around my bum. Argh!

I have never owned a pair of perfectly fitting jeans. Not even close.

So... Anyone else here have the same problem and know a good place to look? Particular shops or brand? I don't like high waisted, prefer a bit of stretch to accommodate my tree trunks and ideally like something boot cut or slouch so not tight on my calves either.

Why are there skinny jeans but no fatty jeans?!
Oh Moogie, I feel for you!!!

I have the exact same problem. Most of my jeans are from New Look. I also find satisfying the ones from Next, Julian MacDonald and Red Herring but 90% of the times I still have to alter them. I buy a pair that is OK for my thighs and then I alter the waist in order to fit that area too.

For our body shape, low waist is the best. High waist is the worst! Still, when you get to your target weight, I advise you to try a pair of not-very-skinny (ie not from Top Shop) jeans as long as you won't wear them with flats. You'll be amazed how much the heels will compliment the jeans, even on your pear body! :-)
Your post made me laugh! I am a pear too even wen I was a size 12 I still had very chunky legs and the exact same problems as u! I even spent £90 on a men's pair of wise fitting hunter wellies that didn't fit my calves!!

I find next jeans quite good have a few pairs that no longer fit but if my memory serves me correct they were ok at the time!! Investing in a good belt is good too for wen they fall down!!

Wen I'm not at work I live in joggers!! Owning two Labradors is my excuse!
I'm a pear too. I have just got into Debenhams slimline range.
It just hit me! My mum (also a pear) buys her jeans from Dorothy Perkins.
Don't know where you could buy jeans, but with those good strong thighs, you should all take up roller derby!
Ugh, I feel your pain, finding jeans that fit in the waist but will also go around my large thighs and calves is indeed a chore. I went to the Gap here in the US and the salespeople helped me find the right size and fit for my frame, "sexy boot cut". They are fitted in the thigh and calf but not skin tight, and have some stretch. Once I got used to a more fitted jean, I now love them.
 I too am still searching for that elusive pair of jeans for the more womanly figure.
I feel your pain! Also a pear shape, and even at my lowest weight I was scrawny as up top, and still thunder thighs down below. At the moment I am a large down below, small - xs up top! Sucks!

The best pants I have ever found - that fit the thighs but don't gape TOO much up top - were from True Religion. They were boot-leg I think. Really comfy. Really expensive. But totally worth it.

And pants wise, the best pants I have ever found are from Esprit, I think they are called 'weekend' fit, but they are nice enough to wear to work etc. They are ALWAYS in stock, in Australia at least, just slightly varying shades year round.

I haven't tried them, but I have also heard of a company called 'Not Your daughters jeans' which are meant to have a wider variety of shapes of jeans.
I have a pair of "trouser style" with stretch. Love them for this pear shape
My daughter is a size 8 but inherited my chunky legs, to make her feel better about them her dad used to tell her they were athletic legs. So ladies, no more thunder thighs or tree trunks you have athletic legs.
must stay off this I'm late for work again.
I'm only 5'2" with very 'athletic' thighs. Jeans are hard work to find. I love Mavi jeans, hard to get in the UK but found them on a trip to US and they were perfect fit. No luck with Levi's, they just look ridiculous on me. Gap straight leg jeans look like skinny jeans on me which is actually more flattering than you might think - nice with a pair of flats. Otherwise it's bootleg with heels all the way. Have to agree with TML13 on that one!
They come to me in waves, LOL, but has anybody tried Seven Jeans? They have cuts for all shapes and they make you look quite thin.
They are kind of expensive so don't go there until you reach your target weight but if you buy them during the sales they won't be too dear!
The same problem here, every time I bought new jeans I would made some alterations. Last jeans I bought were from Uniqlo, skinny jeans, but not veeeery skinny... and I LOVE them, they fit perfectly :)
Have had the same problem forever Moogie, but I have found that a couple of companies here have wide leg jeans/trousers which seem to fit my thighs. Also give a bit more room on my calves -not that they look like wide leg on me.
