As the subject indicates. This is a test post to see if I can force something into the "View New post" slot.
Are you still having this problem? It seems to be working for me...

I see a total of 6 new posts since yesterday when there used to be 1000+. It seems that something got reset somewhere.
@Moogie I'm having a similar problem. Nothing then after@ADFnFuel 's post yesterday they gradually crept up to 6 again but now back to 2!
It seems to be working as it should, that is showing posts which are new since you last dropped by (the forum is not as busy as it used to be :( ) - @ADFnFuel I'm not totally sure on how that page works but do you check it every time you visit? If so, posts which have been listed before would - I think - not show up the next time, so the number shouldn't keep growing unless the forum has been really busy.

Are you sure you're not muddling the numbers up between the New Posts and Unread Posts, of which there may well be 1000+?

We haven't changed anything on the tech side of the forum and I can't see that any updates have run so it should be as it always has been. The only possibility that springs to mind is that it is some kind of cookie issue (perhaps it's not seeing the right dates for your last visit), or perhaps to do with being logged in or not.

You may also find that your own posts don't show up on the new posts page for you.
I use the View New Posts page as my default site page so it is always loaded first. And I don't log out. I knew something was wrong when it loaded with zero entries instead of the usual 1000+. Today that number is 17 dating from the 21st. The number of posts varies from day to day.
@MoogieI'm the same as @ADFnFuel The thread has always been cumulative for me but seems to have 'started again' on 21st with another slight hiccup shortly afterwards. It's never done that before

The posts I have read before have a grey tick and the unread ones a green tick but they appear in the order they were submitted
Hmm, I'll look into it, but I can't think what miht have happened unless you had to log in on that day in particular, or perhaps the sysyem2 had to force a logout for everyone if there was an issue with sessions. But then you would defo have had to log in again.

Do you always use the same device to access the forum, or a number of devices? Were you viewing from your usual device? Just trying to work out what might be going on.
Same device, a Windows 7 PC. Seems that we occasionally go through periods of needing to log back in; no need to expend any more effort on this issue in my view. We could blame sun spots as probable cause.
That sounds like a thoroughly plausible explanation ;)
Thanks for being so helpful about all this.

I've checked on dates, and I wonder if it is somehow connected to my starting on a new theme for the forum the previous day, although I can't think how or why that would cause it as I've left the existing forum files well alone. Apologies if it was somehow my doing.

Definitely sun spots.
Hi @Moogie it's not the end of the world but this page is definitely working differently for me now that it has previously. When I looked this morning there were 19 threads starting on 22nd April, now there are only 7 oldest from April 25th. It seems to be refreshing itself in some way. It may be that this is how it has always worked for others but not for me. This has also been my go to page and before all the posts accumulated. Sometimes when bored I might look back over the last several pages and find something I thought to respond to but didn't have time when it was fresh. These posts are obviously still on the forum but harder to find if they have disappeared from this page. Not so much of a problem now but when the forum was more active posts could quite quickly move to page 2 and out of view.
HI @Lil, really sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. I haven't managed to get to the bottom of it, the files haven't been modified that I can see.

I have done some reading on phpBB and the page should be showing new posts since the last time you logged in. Are you aware of having logged out/in in the last few days? Have you cleared out your cookies or anything like that? Do you always use the same device to access the forum? I wonder if using different devices may cause it to see new logins or something like that.

I'm due a chat with our tech bod this week so will check with him whether there's anything he might have done regarding users/sessions etc outside of the forum which perhaps has affected the forum. We have a pretty complicated setup for registration to tie it in with the FD website, so maybe something external got updated which I'm not aware of. Please bear with me - although I won't be able to get it to list all the old posts which are no longer on there now, it may be possible to find a cause of why it thinks you've logged out & in again. That's the only thing I can think to have caused this.
@Moogie Please don't spend too much time on it.It's not that important and I'm sure I can learn to work round the change. I have found a drop down box at the bottom of the 'view active topics' page which lets you extend the search backwards so I can use that if I need too. I just thought it was worth commenting that the page had changed for me in the same way and at the same time as @ADFnFuel I also tend to stay logged in , the site does periodically force me to log in again but I don't think there is any relationship to what is happening.
View New Topics is back to showing zero entries.

Since this morning when it looked normal, I washed and vacuumed the car. Does that affect it?

Now it shows one post - this one.
I just realised that mine reset itself yesterday morning as well.
