I am having to replace my 30 year old Seiko watch because Seiko don't have the spare parts to repair it. I have found a couple of Seiko two tone silver/gold colour watches around £250 that are OK but I have also been shown a Tag Heuer two tone rose gold/silver watch at £2500 that I like very much. Is there any point spending that much when they at first glance look very similar & will both be reliable & waterproof? I could also buy some gold jewellery instead that at least would be an investment unlike watches that you can't just resell as gold weight!
I am buying myself small jewellery items to celebrate each stone I lose in weight  the last one was a silver bangle/cuff.
Any thoughts?
That seems like a huge treat. I would worry about losing an expensive watch. I have an Omega that stays in the drawer while I can garden etc quite happily in my Seiko.
I would make a list of all the other things you could do with the money and then decide.
If you still want it then go for it.
It's your decision at the end of the day!
Congrats on the weighloss.
When my Dad died, I bought a Zenith and, at the time, it was around £500. I wear it a lot, but also have a collection of 'fun' watches (at around £5 each!)

I lost 'Dad's' watch a couple of months ago and was devasted, but, by a strange twist of fate, it was returned to me by an honest stranger.

Let us know what you decide....
Yes I would and I have. I had an expensive watch bought for me by my OH for my 50th and I wear it as a piece of jewellery. It has great sentimental value for me. I also bought OH a watch for his 50th. If you buy well they can be investment pieces. I guess we all spend our hard earned cash in different ways but if you choose wisely, it could be a lovely way to celebrate your shrinking bod. Last time I lost weight, I bought a pandora bracelet and every time I hit a milestone, I bought a new charm. I never filled it so hoping to do so this time around!
I have a couple of seiko watches and love them. I have a waterproof tough one and a prettier dress one. I wear this one pretty much all of the time. I used to have a solid gold rotary watch and rarely wore it as was scared in case I lost it. I've sold that now and only got gold weight for it :-(
I have been eyeing up omega watches. They're gorgeous, but when I went and tried the one I liked on, found I much preferred my seiko.
If you want a watch for special occasions get yourself whichever one you love.
If you want a watch to wear daily, get your seiko and something else you really love too!

I don't think it's a decision any one of us can make for you! But you did ask whether any of us would buy a really expensive watch and so to answer that I would say no! I'd be too worried about losing it or getting stolen and having always been very (perhaps overly) careful with my money I couldn't justify that sort of spend on a watch when there are so many other things which would give me more pleasure for the money (a giant marine tank, saving towards a new house, etc etc). I might consider spending a few hundred quid on one for a special occasion, but I can't imagine ever having a few grand for one. I guess if money was no object I might.

Reward yourself in whatever way you see fit and are comfortable with.

My motto in life is "if in doubt, don't", and it does sound like you're having doubts about the really expensive watch. If they look really similar and you like both, why not go for the cheaper one and some jewellery, or a holiday? :)
Thank you all for your replies & voices of reason. I guess I am also curious about why expensive watches do sell so well & why people buy them. When I started looking at watches again I looked at functional two tone watches to find a similar one to my old watch that had done me well for so long. I don't go in for bling but do try & buy good quality unusual jewellery as well as making my own. I wouldn't buy designer labels because I don't think they are worth the money anyway but my husband has a Tag watch he bought years ago & put the idea into my head! where upon the jeweller showed me some & they are elegant & understated & I was swayed in that direction. However with my sensible head back on & a family wedding in the offing, & a long haul holiday flight that I would like to upgrade to business class for my derrière to be more comfortable, I think I will save my money. But I will treat myself with my slow ongoing weight loss to some cheaper jewellery. However if I ever win the lottery I may reconsider
As a purchaser who deals in jewellery and watches. Here is a secret. Its the inside of the watch that counts and most watches uses the same 3 brands of movements....to which seiko is one of the movement.

My best advise is make sure the watch is made in either Europe/Japan/USA where the quality and qc is way better then the ones made in China and expensive brands do make their stuff in China to save money.

As for jewellery, if with diamonds, get from India as they have the best workmanship around and their finish is much better then most unless you get as said an European made and finish but you will be paying for the workmanship which lasts even longer.

I faint to see how much people pay for pandora stuff when I know which factories makes them and the price it cost to make them.....I never pay retail anymore for watches, I stick to cheap ones and jewellery I have a contact in India who makes them for me.
I know two people who have had a lot of problems with their expensive watches, but they are beautiful watches...
Personally, probably not, but everyone prioritises how to spend their money differently. You'd probably wear the watch every day, and it would give you pleasure and remind you how brilliantly you've done on 5:2!
Your call, but do tell us what you decide!
I have just remembered - I had a Raymond Weil watch (lovely, with a black face; it was an old wind up one) and it went through the washing machine in the pocket of my jeans.
Never really worked since...
I didn't know people still wore watches!

Jokes aside, I personally wouldn't, but I don't wear watches, much jewellery or spend much money on physical things. If I did any of those, then a beautiful watch would be a wonderful thing to buy. I do have my great grandmothers watch which I love - but never wear.
NO !

With mobile phones always on hand, why waste your time (scuse the pun)

I dont like any kind of adornment in my last decade.. just irritating and im in the garden a lot.

Watches have become a real status symbol but id rather a sportier car or something else. I thnk I also hate watches as my "client from hell" used to boast about his watches. and he is looking at the door of gaol for tax evasion. (10 years min)

just my opinion.
I was looking online for a second hand watch for my sons 21st. Something a bit different. I found the perfect Bretling, well until I saw it was $32,000.00. We're getting him a guitar instead!!
I can see the appeal of a really nice watch but if I had the money I'd rather travel.

crikies. $32k! definitely better things than watches at that price for true happiness.
I wouldn't; I'd be too scared of losing it. Plus I'm not really into owning stuff. This attitude has been reinforced by having a relative who is a hoarder. She loves her "pretty things" so much she can't move in her house and it's a fire trap. But still, if it's what you really, really want, go for it.
