Xmas present for teenager
04 Nov 2013, 13:47
Anybody got any ideas for buying a Christmas present for a 17 year old niece? I have no children of my own and have NO idea what teenagers think is cool (do I mean wicked? Or possibly, sick?!).

Budget about £20 +/-.

Suggestions will be much appreciated :like:

I have two girls, a 15 year old and the other will be 13 at Christmas time and I have no idea what to get them for Christmas and they have no idea what they want.

What about a onesie - you can get them from Primark for £12 and my girls love them.

When my oldest turned 15 a couple of weeks ago I bought her a book on Japanese Knots, ie. making friendship bracelets - she loves it but there is wool everywhere.

A book on making cupcakes or one of the Bake Off books.

Teenagers wear onesies? Not just babies? I've been away from Planet Earth for too long!

MEN wear onsies! Personally I think they look ridiculous, but, each to their own. I will ask my daughter when she gets back from Miami, she is closer to that age.

How about an adults hoola hoop as an unusual pressie?

This might be a bit of a cop out but I always get my teenage nephew an itunes voucher! That way he can just get himself some music or download other things that teenagers like!!

Otherwise I would suggest a magazine subscription or a something nice from Accessorize? xxx

Hubs in a onesie? No thank you, I'd rather see him in a nonesie

I've with ballerina on the onesie / men thing

My hubby detests onesies so much that he has banned even my nine year old girls from wearing them

I remember having one when adult ones first rolled around in the early 90s... In my defence, I lived in an old house with draughty sash windows and no central heating. However, it was useless as the single block construction bathroom was the coldest room in the house, and of course you have to get half undressed to wee...

Anyway. Back to the question, yes, many teenagers love onesies, but they ALL love vouchers or cash.

I think onesies must mean something different over there. They are only for babies here. It is like an undershirt that snaps at the crotch worn over diapers. Guessing that onesies might be called footed pajamas here? I have a 16yo daughter and I don't think she would want either of those things, though. But, teens are funny and styles here and there could be quite a bit different.

No @43tweaker, you're thinking of the same thing. For some reason they were the latest big thing for teenagers this winter - I often have a house full of a dozen or so teens and most of them will be in onesies. They even go to the shops in them! I still maintain that they shouldn't be worn by anyone over the age of 3

Tara, you think going to the shops in one is bad....

A few weeks ago, I was in Birmingham on a girlie night out. We were staying in a city centre hotel, and meeting in the bar. I was first downstairs, all glammed up, as you might expect at 8pm on a Saturday night out. I walked into the bar to find a girl of about 20 enjoying a drink, clad in a grey leopard print onsie

I have a onsie. I'm 44  great for chilli eves when been exercising, had a shower and dont want to cool down too much. M and S. And yes my hubs isn't keen but that's just tough.
A driving lesson, make up, false nails, the latest perfume, iTunes voucher. Need more info on the 17 yr old. My son would love halfords voucher as has a car. But yes a blank cheque would always go down well. Hollister, super dry, bank. I could go on all night.

I bought my boyfriend a penguin onesie from Primark and he loves it. He lives in Scotland and his heating doesn't work anymore so he says he's really warm to sleep in.

Teenagers can be fussy to buy for, important things are clothes, music and make-up at that age, unless she has any special interests.

I have the same problems with teenage nephews. I have resisted giving them money; it seems so impersonal, but I actually think that's what they want. Vouchers are a good idea.
