Delighted or Disappointed?

I have a housework job that I have generally avoided doing, as much as possible in the past. As it caused me so much sweating, gasping for breathe, swearing, tired muscles and needing a nap afterwards as I was so exhausted. I avoided doing this activity for as long as possible, but today it just had to be done.

What is this horrendously awful activity you ask? It was flipping the mattress on our bed. That plus the 3 inch memory foam topper. We have a kingsize mattress, with a very heavy 3 inch memory foam topper, turning both of them over or flipping them around is a really hard job. Today I looked at the mattress and decided, that no matter how much sweating and swearing it was going to cause, it needed doing. So I started, stripping the sheets etc, hauling off the topper, flipping the mattress and remaking everything.
I didn't raise a sweat, I didn't go bright red with exertion, I wasn't panting, my muscles didn't turn to jelly, I didn't even swear. It was done and dusted in less than 10 minutes ( a job that used to take half and hour with a tea break in the middle), with no trouble at all.

Its not a scales difference, but a substantial one in my eyes. A life improvement that can translate to other activities.

What are your NSV (none scale victories) that don't include clothing?
Well done :like:

I know the feeling also having a king size bed !

For me, last week, going into town one lunch time on my break, and walking rather briskly. This was unheard of before ! I didn't even think about it, until afterwards!
I haven't tried flipping the mattress on my bed yet but I have become a fitter and faster cyclist - have shortened my commute by a good 6 or 7 minutes.

Well done us!
Walking up a steep road much easier than before, and no nanna naps on saturday and sunday afternoons. Xxx
Not using my asthma inhaler for 6 months!
Julie, that's great - stay strong! Also congratulations to lantoflad, Julianna, Moira, and Minigill! You should all be pleased!!

I had a pleasant surprise today! Although I haven't been overly focused on my waist size (I'm scale obsessed), it is down by over an inch! It is also nice to see how a skirt that was too tight a few months ago (which saddened me greatly because it was previously too tight to wear to work) is now baggy....
These are great accomplishments. I have also gotten faster on my bike, much to the surprise of my husband (who has complained in the past that if he goes too slow, he's in danger of falling over!).

But it took me awhile to understand NSV, even when it was spelled out. That's because it is a non- scale victory, not a none scale victory.
Great thread, Julie. Yay for all the NSVs! I think I have more energy (so subjective, isn't it?).

I know you said non-clothes related, but I just have to mention how much more space my wardrobe has because I'm being ruthless about giving away clothes that no longer fit. This time I'm not going to bag them up and stick them in the attic in case I put the weight back on. I'm not!
This is one of my thrills also, @shachat. I had left so many oversized clothes in my closet (=wardrobe, I believe) that it was stuffed. No longer. I had also left some that I was planning on "shrinking into", but now even if they fit, they are so outdated that I'm giving them away anyway (example: pants (=trousers) that come up to my ribcage  - probably bought in 1978 )
Wendyjane, I refuse to wear pants that don't come up above my waist! I may have to order some from the LL Bean catalog, because I can't find any in stores or thrift shops.

I can't think of any nsv thing that's terribly different, probably because a 10-pound loss isn't that big a deal, although my total cholesterol is no longer flirting with 200--now down to 173.

Thanks, Julie, for all these interesting threads.
@Marybeth what about the Lands End catalogue - they do trousers / jeans in about 3 separate fits, inc on- the- waist - http://www.landsend.com
" it is a non- scale victory, not a none scale victory " Ooops! Thankfully I wasn't the one teaching my son spelling.
Thanks, Silverdarling, I'll check it out--I wonder if I'll live long enough for this fit to come more generally back in style?

Now that I think about it, there's one more great thrift store I haven't visited in quite a while in this area http://www.yelp.com/biz/mary-durham-boutique-ithaca just in case some people near Ithaca, NY, might be interested.
My NSV is easy: being able to run without my knees hurting.

I can't wait to do a big closet clearing as well!
