Delighted or Disappointed?

21 posts Page 1 of 2
I reached target in August 2013 and had maintained my weight successfully without fasting for several months up to Christmas. Following a fun festive period consuming lots of wine and chocolate I found myself three pounds heavier and one pound over target.

I started back on 5:2 last week fasting on Monday and Thursday and being more sensible again on the other days. I weighed myself this morning as usual and was delighted to find I have lost 3lbs!

I will continue with 5:2 for a while and hopefully lose a few more pounds to create a buffer and then decide what to do next. I was pleased to find that it wasn't difficult to fast after a long break - I was worried that it might be as hard as it was when I first started last year.
Windsurfer, well done!
I too, gained 3 pounds and I have lost that + 1. It's a great way of eating, isn't it? Your BMI looks around the same as mine and I want to lose another couple of pounds, before deciding whether to stick - or drop a bit!

Good luck.
Well done, windsinger. I'm still struggling with my holiday gain, and keep having silly melt downs.

Thanks Silverdarling and Maryann.

@Maryann - I struggled to get back on track after Christmas and my weight went up a bit further in the first part of January. However I gave myself a good talking to and was determined not to undo all of my hard work last year. I have regained weight in the past by thinking 'oh well, I've gained weight again, it's not worth trying any more, I'll just have another chocolate/cake etc...' and then it's a slippery slope. I have been following this forum more closely in the last week or so and it really helped me to get back on track. Good luck to you - you have done so well and I'm sure you will be ok
Well done, isn't it nice to get away from the awful yo-yo dieting of old? This time round it is just a matter of getting a couple of fasts under you tight belt and he presto, back to where you were without angst, tears, well maybe without tears, and none of the self loathing for being weak, stupid, useless and all the other negative emotions that were part and part of trying to control ones weight. Well, that was how it was for me and I'm sure I'm not the only one on here that did all that, so, again, well done girl

yeah, I'll be fine. It's just a matter of when. Anyway, I can't really gain much more or all the new clothes I bought won't fit, and i already gave the fat ones away! There's a lot going on right now… I definitely need to go a month without sweets. I'm letting them knock me off the rails.
Hi Windsinger

Great loss. Well done.

It is great to hear that you found maintenance easy and didn't gain any weight till Christmas.

My thought all along is to help balance maintenance by throwing in a fast day when needed. You have just confirmed that to be correct.

Gives me hope for when I get there.

Well done windsinger, just the great kind of celebration post We all love to read. I think we need to construct a "Yay I've lost my Xmas gain " tent. :victory:

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling MaryAnn, you need to sort out your mind and get yourself into the right frame of mind then go for it. Sounds good coming from the worlds most prolific ex-dieter doesn't it? ( Did you notice I called myself and ex-dieter, well, that's what mind over matter does so, go for it! ) good luck, I KNOW you will get there,

Well - on the way there! - another lb lost, just 2 lb to go to get to my early December weight, so that tent might be getting a bit crowded very soon :victory:

Yes it is hard - but I think everyone's right on here to advocate 'back to basics' :victory:
 @Silverdarling Yes I'm not quite back to my early December weight yet  it's so frustrating I feel like I've wasted a month  put it behind us and learn from it that's all we can do we will get there deffo.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words.

I think it is important to remember that the key to long term success is seeing this as a WOE and not a diet. This means we need to accept that sometimes it's difficult when life gets in the way and sometimes because of lovely times like holidays and Christmas, so just be sensible if possible during those times and get back to 5:2 when we can. We mustn't think that we've failed at all as the risk is that we will give up completely.

Although I have maintained my weight successfully and easily (apart from Christmas) for more than five months, I still can't quite believe it and worry that it's a dream from which I will wake up one day.

The support of everyone on this forum is so important during those wobbly times - we have all had them and can be strong together :like:
Excellent words there WS - am sure that others like @Ballerina and @Domane who are some way ahead of us and on the maintenance path will all agree with you on this.
Well done @windsinger123 :like:
Stories like your just make me even more sure that I've chosen the right path
