Delighted or Disappointed?

I am over the moon to have reached my target of 10st 7lbs today, in fact I am 1 lb below :victory: . This is after losing an amazing 5lbs this week :victory:

I have found it helpful to read of others' journeys so here is mine:

I was naturally very slim until after the birth of my second daughter when I was 29. I hadn't gained too much weight in my pregnancy and was back at my normal weight within a week or two. However my metabolism seemed to change after the birth and my weight then started to increase gradually every year, and holiday and Christmas gains just stayed put. By mid 2012, on my 50th birthday, I had reached almost 13st - depressing. I am 5ft 5.

I saw the original Dr M programme in August 2012 and decided to give 5:2 a go. I managed to lose 7lbs quite easily and quickly but I gave up after a couple of months.

At New Year I had a severe bout of flu and lost a few pounds. I decided that I would use this to kickstart a diet in January.

Shortly afterwards the 5:2 book was published and I decided to give it a go again. Through its website I came across this forum, which has been the reason that I have been able to reach my target after six months. I cannot say enough what a difference it has made to me - the nerd stuff helped me to understand how it works, but more importantly the fantastic support of the members helped keep me going

If you look at my progress chart you will see that I had a plateau early on, which I realised was due to overeating on feed days and so tracked calories every day for about six weeks using MFP. By then I was confident that I knew what I needed and so have not tracked calories since.
I have also had what appears to be a plateau for the last few weeks but this is because I have had several weekends away and lots of socialising for various reasons. I ate what I wanted and tried to fit in fasting and a bit of 16:8 where I could to compensate, so I was quite happy that I didn't gain much.
In the last week I have fasted properly on two days and have eaten sensibly on the other days and to my astonishment when I weighed in this morning I have lost 5lbs this week! I think this must be largely due to loss of retained water after the very hot period and the excess eating/drinking. One interesting thing I noticed was that my body fat % had continued to reduce during this plateau.

Although I am delighted to have reached my target I am now wondering what to do next :?: My BMI is still at the top end of normal so I wonder whether I should try to get it down a bit further. My target was about a stone higher than my pre-pregnancy normal weight, but I am now 51 and don't want my face to be too wrinkly! I am a comfortable size 12 now and my waist is less than 50% of my height. I think I will carry on with 5:2 for now and see where my weight stablises.

Thank you to everyone for your support and special thanks to Moogie for creating this fabulous resource
What a lovely post, and well done on getting to your target.

I got to mine which was to get to a healthy BMI then decided to move my goal down another 7lbs to 9st 7lbs, to give myself some leeway if I do start to gain a bit.

As for maintenance, I am planning to do 6:1 and see how that goes. I enjoy my Fast days and would not like to give them up completely.
What a wonderful feeling for you!
Thx for posting your story - I find them all interesting and completely agree that if it wasn't for this forum I may not be where I am today. :like:
I'm not sure about maintenance either, but think I need to keep doing some sort of fasting. I need it to keep me on the straight and narrow I reckon.

The best of luck to you! :clover:
Well done! You could keep going and see if u look wrinkly - remember to check with your glasses on LOL or ask a friend you trust. I too am conscious of this but I don't look too bad and I'm 8 years older than you and I am down to almost my slimmest in my adult years. you can always put a bit on if you feel gaunt.
Well done! :victory:
Big congrats Jemina!! :like:

Well Done windsinger on reaching your goal, what a great feeling you must have today, I couldn't agree more about the special people on this forum  Good Luck with maintenance :clover: Sue
I'm really loving reading all these 'target reached' posts that are popping up lately!

Well done Windsinger, congratulations! :like: Look forward to hearing what you decide to do for maintenance, keep us posted!
Well done. I love reading about people who have succeeded in their goals!
Well done, I would continue till you are comfortable with what you see in the mirror. Adding exercise (if you don't already do it) may be the way to go. Just toning up what you already have.
I'm with everyone else here, keep going and just make changes as and when you feel it is right for you. I reached my target weight and have since lost a further 7 lbs, not deliberately, but I am happy at this weight now, my face looks fine, well, as fine as it's ever going to look, and I still bear in mind that I am under my target which is a wonderful fall back if a social situation occurs spontaneously, I just dip into my 'fat bank reserves' and then back to normal without any angst.

Good luck, :like:

Ditto to all above, lovely to read your personal story. Well done and as Airie says keep us up to date with how you continue on this journey
Well done Windsinger123, what a wonderful surprise to reach your target in such a dramatic way. Good luck.

Wonderful, as others have said, it's so nice to read of all these 'target reached' stories, we can all share in celebrating your success, and it does contribute to the collective sense of well- being. So thanks for the post, and we will look forward to hearing how you get on in maintenance

Thank you everyone for your kind words

I will continue with 5:2 for now as I quite enjoy the fasting days - it feels like I am giving my body a break and I don't find them difficult now. I am sure that my weight will eventually reach its own natural balance as my TDEE reduces.

GMH you are so right about glasses. I am lucky in that I don't have many wrinkles for my age but I have never had good skin and one great advantage of my ageing eyesight is that I can't see the flaws so well now lol
