Disappointed with myself
06 Feb 2014, 15:30
:frown: Yesterday was my second feast day ( today is my second fast day) and though I did remarakably well on my fast day, I overdid it yesterday. I was so sure I'd be able to control myself, but I went for dinner at my mum's and ate too much (not way over the top) but the bad things is that I almost had a bottle of wine!!!! THing is when I drink wine I can rarely stick to one glass, it's more like 3 or 4 large ones! Still I don't want to have to give up altogether or I'll just end up feeling deprived and go crazy. Do you think I should only drink on week ends to seriously cut down the calories in the booze?
Thanxs gals

Way-hey weekends are a better idea, provided they start Friday night and end Sunday afternoon!

I think you should send me all your wine and I will take care of it for you and keep it out of temptation. I'm kind like that you see.

I think it might be a good idea to have one night a week earmarked as treat night. My Sis in law always made Sat night her night and she had wine and chocolate then. Seemed to work well for her, she didn't feel too deprived but she saved herself loads of excess cals when she stopped drinking through the week.

Good luck.

Hi @humptydumpty , i know what you mean about 1 glass of wine becoming 3 or 4 large ones. I only started the 5.2 way in January this year but was concerned about my wine intake so have been limiting alcohol to the weekends only. One thing I have started to do and don't ask me why, but it is working for me, is that I use a small glass (I found an odd one at the back of my MIL's house - don't know if it's for sherry or port or something like that) when I now drink wine and I find that I tend to sip my wine slower and will still have 3 or 4 glasses but they are a lot smaller than the 3 or 4 wines glasses worth I was having. Strange but true..... x

OH and I limit alcohol to weekends (Friday - Sunday). We didn't over Christmas and I gained 6lbs.

I've been doing this for a year now and although it's not big nor clever, I love my booze - beer and wine. I drink four nights a week on average. I've lost 2 stone and am just about a healthy BMI now.

From the outset, I didn't want to change my sad boozy lifestyle too much, so I made other choices. I reduced bread intake by 75% (fat free greek yoghurt and muesli for breakfast instead of toast, soup instead of sandwiches for lunch), cut out fruit juice and I bought a bike off eBay.

My weight loss has been slower than most and I accept that.

I wanted a bit of a boost so decided to go 4:3 instaed on 5:2 and cut out the booze for 2 weeks, starting last week. 5 days in (yesterday) my wife announces that she has some good news and drags me off to the pub!

The best laid plans of mice and men...

Oh, and the worst thing is holidays for me (they're also 5:2 holidays). Over a total of 3 and a half weeks on holiday last year, I think I added abou 12 lbs (although the excess did tend to fall off quite quickly after getting back on track)

I'm aiming to drink only on the weekends (which means Friday, Saturday and Sunday for me!) and I think it will help if I can stick to it. I know I'd lose the weight more easily if I cut out drinking altogether, but I don't want to. Thing is, I drink cider (by the pint) which is full of sugar. Ought to wean myself off it and drink G&T's instead using Slimline Tonic. All in good time...

Same problem here, I seem to have a faulty pleasure off switch and once I start....... I am now having at least four wine free days a week and just limiting myself to Fri, Sat and Sunday, and if we stay in any of those evenings, I do not drink at home :-( It doesn't help that wine measures have increased at the pub, it would appear that a "medium" is what I would have once called a large, a large is equivalent to a bucket and small seems to have disappeared forever.

This is my motto exactly same as @Azureblue

@humptydumpty You had a small fall worry not if you need to celebrate something midweek go ahead but do try to fit in 2 good 500 cal fasts. However when I know I'm eating out with red wine ( as I do quite regularly ) I make that day a half/semi fastday where I fast the 24 hrs then eat + drink whatever I want knowing I will be inside my TDEE
( which is still quite high) this works for me and I get to eat out with no worries or guilt, this I do along with my normal fastdays.

I drink Thurs-Sun. And often do what Sue does and fast all day if I'm going out in the evening. Being able to still drink was one of my red-lines when I started this WOE. I compensate with low-carb, 16:8 etc

The first thing I had to do was stop calling them Feast days!!! I call them normal days, in that I'm trying to eat like a normal person, not a fat person.

If you have trouble stopping with one glass, by all means you should limit drinking to one or two nights a week. It's a lot of calories in a whole bottle of wine!

Don't beat yourself up too badly. You can indulge - SOME - just not every day, all day :-)

Thanks everyone, you're all so great! @Sue.Q so do you find you still lose wight quite steadily by fasting half day do you mean skipping both breakfast and lunch?) when you have a night out?
What do you think if I have one dy a week when I can have whatever I want (wine, pizza, aperitif, the lot) and then 2 fast days (usually about 22:2) and then if I know I have a big meal out planned I can skip lunch and breakfast or have a really light lunch like salad with oil-free tuna? (about 150 cals, I think) ??? Ta

 Hi @humptydumpty Yes I was steadily losing weight with 3 full fast days then sometimes 1or even 2 days where yes I fast all day when eating out then eat + drink whatever I want to BUT my TDEE is still high because of my weight but I do make use of that by having a 2 course evening meal on each of my 3 fastdays this system worked very well up to Christmas the only gains were one week
holiday x 2    Which was my first non holiday gain and truthfully struggling to get back to my pre/xmas lowest
this week has seen me trying the refeed so on tomorrow's weigh-in may see an increase  watch this space.

@Sue.Q so let me get this straight, many weeks you'd basically be having 3 500 cal fast days and then maybe anotther 2 where you'd fast but then have a (let's say) 2000 cals dinner? God.... it sounds tough!!!
My TDEE is 2000
