 @humptydumpty Well strangely enough I didn't find it tough because my reward was a 2 or 3 course evening meal plus wine, because 3 nights each weekend I get to do what I want as I said this Did work.!!
You are right though we shouldn't make this WOL to feel like a same as any other diet out there because it isn't and when I know I'm not eating out I generally just do my 3 fasts plus one half fast.
Think it comes down to daily/weekly calorie intake so mine was obvious under my weekly TDEE, may need a rethink sometime soon will see what my unfriendly scales say Fri.

@Sue.Q how much wine would you drink on your free nights? The ones where you skip lunch?
(Are you from the UK? Just curious! :-))

I just love the openness here, pretty amazed by it since IRL admitting that wine drinking have gone overboard (that is to me drink wine almost every day of the week and not just two glasses) is almost shameful. The interesting thing though, that when I started to talk about this with my closest friend at work, several had the same problem.

So after a drunken Saturday evening I went "on the wagon", made a deal with youngest son and have been dry all January. Not easy I admit, some bad days, I longed for at least one glass of red....But I made no detours to "Systembolaget" (the government owned only place to get alcoholic beverage stronger than 3.5% beer) so The DH kind of dried out in the long run too and - we saved a lot of money :)

Now we have made a deal: no more bag in the box, no more than one shared bottle of wine and no drinking during weekdays no matter how horrible work has been ;)

Today I did the wine/beer shopping (no more hard liquor either) for the weekend - friends over for dinner on Saturday and I'm proud to say that we only had ice water with the rather delish pasta and chicken dish I made for dinner. OK, so I went a tiny bit overboard with that pasta for being a fast day, but maybe the abscens of wine will make it even up on the scales. Tomorrow will tell

Now then, HumptyDumpty - cut yourself a little slack!! I don't know how much weight you want to lose, but I am presuming, like many of us, you are also trying to develop a healthier relationship with food?

Any changes you can make to your eating patterns will be an improvement....but you are only human...and there will be blips along the way - everyone on here will tell you this!

The important thing is that you have made a commitment to yourself to lose weight & eat more healthily. Rome wasn't built in a day & sadly, none of us can snap our fingers & instantly become the weight we want to be - so relax, go with the flow....and above all, enjoy the ride!

Oops, I've just realised I haven't mentioned wine once! Seems to me the advice you have already been given re limiting when you drink to weekends, saving calories up during the day etc will be the best way forward for you. We don't want life to be utterly joyless now, do we?? So, factor it in.....and thoroughly enjoy every mouthful!!!

Yes @humptydumpty The UK and my wine drinking is always at least 3 nights where I share one bottle half each on the half fast days 2to 4 glasses but on occasion full bottle!!!
I'm sorry life is for living and I know better than anyone how well I've done and have probably been very lucky but and now its pay back time and may need to stop midweek.

@Hazelnut, funny you should say Rome wasn't built in a day, as I live in Rome har har
@Woolfie, why should it be shameful to admit to drinking 2 glasses per day??? I seem to remember Scandinavians aren't exactly tea-totallers :-)))) . I am not sure if you're Scandinavian though. I live in Italy and Italians love wine but are in no way big drinkers, they are very moderate drinkers, but many consider it healthy to have let's say one glass of red with your meal. It's good for the heart, that's what they say.
Now me, I am a completely different case, I like my wine, but I also like to chill out with it, if you know what I mean.
However, for now I have decided to not drink at all 4 days a week and we'll see where it goes from there and have a really light lunch the days that I do drink..... Thanks everyone!!!!!

@humptydumpty
Yup I am Scandinavian, Swedish in fact and here the approach to alcohol is IMHO quite strange. They/we can surely drink, but somehow it's more "approved" of to get drunk at parties etc, more tham drinking wine on all week nights. Ha, some people even frown upon those who live alone and admit to have a glass of wine or two on their own :( Why that is so I have no idea. For me (and The DH) mostly the chill out factor is the main force, but a nice meal (where I have spent at least 1hr in the kitchen to cook) certainly deserves some nice red :)

That is funny HumptyDumpty!! Oooh, maybe I am a witch.....

Anyway, sounds like you have worked out a great compromise re the grape juice. I love a nice chilled Pinot Grigio myself, but my OH is teetotal (very useful when going out as he is always the driver, tee hee!) so I am not all that keen on drinking alone. Wish my abstinence would extend to cake & chocolate - I'd have this WOL licked then!

Keep us posted on how you get on - however it goes. We are not just here for the good times....and we are all in this together!

For me it's chocolate not alcohol. I would undo all my good work. I have a goal to be able to drop at least 2 dress sizes for my SIL's wedding this keeps me focused. Can you pick something like that to keep you on the straight and narrow. Don't be too hard on yourself this is a big mind set change to food and drink.

Hi my lovely ladies, so tonight is Friday, I have planned for my boozy days to be FRi and Sat , so no drinking again on Sun and then of course I have to always have those 4 days which are totally wine free. I am having Chinese at my mum's tonight and tomorrow we are going out for a meal with friends!
Today I literally had 1 piece of ricotta and spinach-stuffed pasta for lunch (the size of a matchbox) while my hubby and son scoffed platefuls, so I think I won't be going beyond my 2000 cals, especially since I skipped rice in my order and only got steamed spring onions (can you get them in the UK?) and grilled beef! Of course there shall be wine, but let's face it, I'd have to drink a gallon to exceed!

Thanks for starting this thread, I've just got a very small glass out of my sideboard and filled it with wine. Will let you know how it goes. More steps for my fitbit no doubt.

My weigh-in day is Sunday, so it really focuses my mind on a Saturday night as to whether I really need a glass or two of red! :?:
