Good News!

How good is that?

I'm no longer obese!

I'll just have to avoid that celbratory cake! Thankfully though, for now at least, I seem to be able to resist over-indulgence. I hope that the re-trained appetite is now part of me. Perhaps one day I'll have a flat stomach again, or is that too much to hope?

Woohoo! Thats brilliant Bracken. You must be over the moon. Flat stomach, here we come. I remember the happy day where I could see the lap sash on my seatbelt because my tummy wasn't as big. Enjoy your special milestone. You deserve it! Wow , I just saw your progress tracker! Well done! Whats your secret?

Well done Bracken, rarely has being merely overweight been something to celebrate!!!
Every time I see your name, I think of the bunnies in Watership Down - in a good way, cos we know what happened to them

Thanks julianna.

I'm not sure if I have a secret, but I'm trying to limit the carbs as I think that I'm pre-diabetic and need to get a hold of that. In the past, carbs have been my downfall. I love bread and cheese, but I'm keeping away. I'll allow myself a tiny piece of cheese with an oatcake occasionally.

I'm also doing consecutive day fasting and throw in 16:8 most days. I had a blip a few weeks ago as a result of a long week-end of socialising and hotel stays. I was surprised by how quickly that registered, but I soon got back on track and ,for now, I'm not finding it hard. I don't have a sweet tooth and enjoy wholegrains and vegetales. I'm largely vegetarian, but very occasionally eat a little fish. So generally I probably eat well, and always have done really; I just ate too much and had too many carbohydrates.

Thanks Debs. Yes, I'm still very overweight, but yesterday I noticed signs of the old houglass shape which I used to have (my stomach was disguised by the hem of my top).

Bracken was my old dog, whom, I still miss after five years. Gone but not forgotten!

That's just great. I too have reduced my carbs a lot but not my cheese. Like you I don't have a sweet tooth. I often think wow, how big would I have been if I had a sweet and savoury tooth! I was worried that I was prediabetic as my Dad and brother have diabetes. When my doctor did a checklist on my risk factors before I started 5:2 at 104 kgs she said I had a 1 in 30 chance of developing diabetes ( better odds than I suspected because all these years I had done at least 2 and 1/2 hours of exercise a week which doc said can help prevent getting it) and once I get my waist down to less than 80 cm it will be more like 1 chance in a hundred) I feel like I've missed a bullet. waist now 93 cm down from 107cm! Half way there. At age 45 you realize that this is not a dress rehearsal.

julianna,

I tested my fasting glucose last week and it was high. I wondered about diabetes some time ago, so was tested at the local pharmacy. They said that I was ok so I didn't particularly think about it, despite reducing carb intake, until speaking with my daughter and her partner who comes from a family of diabetics. Apparently I was demonstrating some early signs, so I checked, using his glucose monitor, and they were right. It is something that I really need to get a grip of.

I'm older than you and realise that I really do need to get fit and healthy. I have no option if I want to avoid a miserable time as I age. I don't want to keel over just yet!

Congratulations on your new shape!

I had a dog called Bracken, too. One of the most intelligent dogs I have ever owned - she was a tricolour collie.

Anyway, back to 5 2 - onwards and downwards!

Hiya Bracken. You've done amazingly well with a massive 30+ pound loss in such a short amount of time. Very interesting to see that our numbers are very similar. I will not get to 12.4 as now maintaining for a while but ....woo. Hoo...I will definitely be keeping an eye on your progress as a comparison.

Thanks for your good wishes everybody.

Good luck with your surgery Carrie.

Penny, my dog was an English Springer. He wasn't particularly blessed with intelligence, but he was well equipped with "character genes". A real star in my mind.

Well done. My other dog is Bracken, she's a 3 year old lurcher. I didn't choose her as my avatar as she is skinny!
