hi everyone,
I'm very happy to have some great blood results back today - including the lowest ever HBA1c (test for blood sugar level over 3 months or so) since I diagnosed myself with diabetes nearly 14 years ago of 4.9% (30mmol/mol for those of us in the new-speak). My last one last December, after fasting for around a month, was 5.4% (36mmol/mol) - still in the normal range, but down from my level of 5.8 (40mmol/mol) last August before I started fasting, which is mildly elevated. Despite the fact that at that time last August, I was riding 150km per week in training for my bike tour. So I was fairly fit then.
And choleterol - since I have been fasting and reading more about it, I cut back my medication by half (10mg rosuvastatin down to 5mg rosuvastatin per day) from about last December. At the same time, I started doing some HIIT (a bit intermittently). And I haven't been eating the plant sterol margarine that I used to live on. But even so, my total cholesterol is still only 4.8 (I was at 3.8 -4.3 when on 10mg). I'm happier being in the 4s anyway, since the most recent UK diabetes survey came out, showing the lowest death rate for people with diabetes between cholesterol levels 4-6, any lower was associated with a higher death rate. Not that that's causative of course.
And my HDL is as high as it's ever been at 1.38 mmol/L (it was only 0.9 when I was diagnosed!). AND my triglycerides are also at a record low of 0.9 mmol/L, down from 1.1 to 1.5 previously (or 7 (SEVEN) when I was diagnosed, that was pretty bad).
So, all in all, what a beautiful set of numbers!! I'm tickled pink! I'm off to celebrate by doing my HIIT for the day!
