Health MOT
18 Oct 2013, 16:33
Went to the gym for my aqua class today and there was a team there offering free health MOTs. As I can't remember the last time I had cause to see a health professional I decided to get myself checked out and these were my results.
Weight (fully dressed wearing big jumper and boots!) 45kg
BMI 20
BP 131/76
GLUCOSE mmol/L (Not really sure what this implies?) 515
PULSE 79

The guy told me my results were all 'fine', but there wasn't time for him to elaborate so any comments from anyone with knowledge of interpreting this data very welcome as it's an area I know little about. :?:

I presume the blood glucose was 5.15 not 515 or you'd be in a coma! About 5 is normal.

BP, the top number 131 is a little high but unless you'd been sitting quietly and not having done any exercise, I don't think it'll mean anything at all. Bottom number is fine. As your pulse was a bit high, I'd bet you'd not been sitting quietly for 15 min before the BP was taken!

Thanks Caro! you're right, I've just misinterpreted the decimal point in the glucose result as a digit! Yes, it was 5.5. I had literally just done 45 mins of an energetic aquacize class, showered and got dressed then had these tests done straightaway.

Wasn't sure of the exact numbers and not knowing your age so I cut these from the saga page, as they apply to adults in the main. Eg my resting pulse is late 60's early 70's. I did get 58 last wedsnesday at 10.30 at night after several hours watching tv after my exercise class. I am 44 and exercise nearly every day. So we are all different. Hope this info helps.

The average resting heart rate for an adult is between 60 and 100 beats per minute, while well-conditioned athletes can achieve between 40 and 60 beats per minute. The maximum pulse rate is 220 minus your age, and the target for a healthy pulse rate during, or just after, exercise, is 60-80 per cent of this.

Therefore, if you are aged 50, you should aim to build up fitness gradually until you reach a target pulse rate during exercise of between 102-136 bpm (beats per minute).

If you are aged 55, your target should be between 99-132 bpm, age 60 = 96-128 bpm, age 65 = 93-124bpm, age 70 = 90-120 bpm, and age 75 = 87-116 bpm.
