Hope it's a temporary blip
24 Jul 2013, 08:56
Gained 400g (almost a pound) at today's weigh-in. Sometimes it really does feel like one step up and two back. I was a little reckless on my feed days (have gotten a hankering for brownies from Starbucks mid-afternoon that I've been indulging - don't know where that came from) but was logging 10,000+ steps every day on my Fitbit and doing as much exercise as before.

Anyway, I will watch the between-meal treats this week, keep up with the stepping and hope that, with the weather cooling, water retention will go down next week. I will also keep in mind how many more of my clothes I can wear comfortably having lost what I have so far, and that I don't have an alternative plan to get rid of the weight I want to (and keep it off) so I will just have to hang in there.

Hope others are doing well.

Darn those coffee shops! I was indulging in Costa blueberry muffins until I saw how many calories they were. I stopped eating them and lost 3lbs in a week. Good luck avoiding the brownies ,mummybunny xx

My daily indulgence has become a Bud Lite Lime beer! It just tastes SO good after a day at work. I had finished the 6 pack I had and then after golf last night I drove by a beer distributor and my car just veered right in! I now have a 24 bottle case..um..well 23 bottles are remaining! I really don't need that extra 100 or so calories, but I sure do enjoy it!

We'll get there....keep on fasting!

Sometimes cakes and sweets that aren't home made tend to have millions of calories (why? I don't understand).
I tend to have traditional Greek treats (our edition of a ricotta tartine has less than 200 calories, for example) and if I want something like cake I try to either buy them from Greek bakeries (imported ones and the ones from coffee chains have double calories) or eat home made ones.

TML13 - do homemade cakes really have fewer calories than shop bought ones? I've never done the calculation on it.

Not all of bought ones and not all of home made ones but I've seen a muffin having over 500 calories in Starsucks while the bakery ones usually don't exceed 300.
I am talking about Greek bakeries though since our recipes tend to have less fat and sugar than the American and British ones.
The few times that I estimated the calories of something I baked, they were roughly half of the calories that are mentioned on bought ones from a supermarket or a cafe.

Maybe that's the way to literally have my cake and eat it too - bake it myself :-)

In my gluttony I have at least been attempting SOME restraint - I have been choosing the brownies for the simple reason that they have fewer calories than the muffins. The brownies have 350ish while the muffins always top 400. But I will attempt to cut it all out for the week and see what happens.

Slightly off topic but ........ I was in a coffee shop recently and there were cupcakes on display, with their calorie values. One was over 500 cals!

I'm not a cupcake fan - the icing too sickly for me, and after all these months of only having 500 cals for a whole day twice a week, I find the idea of a 500 cal cake impossible to even think about eating. I try and stick close to my TDEE on non-fast days and could not justify 25% on a cake, I could have half a bottle of wine and still have "change" left over

Well, it got me interested how much calories has my favorite home-made choc chip muffin. It comes to around 280 ckal per muffin and I didn't skimp on anything. Not too bad comparing with the one bought from Costa, which is 440 ckal. However, my home-made muffins are somewhat smaller.

I think portion size has a lot to do with it, I bake a lot and nearly always get more muffins/cakes than the recipe says I should, so that plus the fact that I take a few healthy shortcuts makes for much lower cal healthier treats.
Mummybunny hang in there, it's so frustrating to see an increase, it's probably all water/natural weight variations anyway!

My chocolate cup cakes are 100 cal each if I don't ice them - that's mixing a 1 egg all-in-one recipe, and making a dozen cakes.

My portions are usually bigger than the regular ones but I always use less fat and less sugar.

You all eat the cupcakes and send the frosting to me. Haven't indulged in a while but I've been known to make frosting, freeze it, and then eat with a spoon...oh my, I think I just drooled on myself.

Sue, even baklava has a lighter version. Less butter and diluted honey in water instead of syrup. I like it more than the traditional edition because I can eat more of it. And it is more crunchy!
