Finally, after many attempts to calorie restrict and yo-yo-ing with a couple of kilos, I've managed to shift those kilos PLUS an extra 6, and am now at my wedding weight!!!
I have really enjoyed learning from others and sharing in their journeys, so here's mine.
For almost 2 weeks prior to discovering 5:2 I'd begun a standard calorie restriction 'diet' (urghh - can't stand that term!) and had lost 2kg. I saw the MM show during this time but didn't think anything more about it. Then I was randomly searching the bookdepository's website, and there was THE BOOK. Well, I ordered it straight away - just to read a bit about it, you see. Told OH about this. Suggested I might give this a go (in order to try to shift the 0.5kg per year I'd put on since getting married AND the baby weight I'd never lost - 2 kids). Scoff scoff said he. Well ...
The book arrived Friday, I read it Saturday morning, decided I'd weigh and measure on Sunday and planned to try it for 3 months. And so I began the 5:2 journey 13 weeks ago.
I decided to not tell anyone except OH and one friend at work (who had also seen the show). Have not told anyone else and have not told the children. The first few fasts I found challenging, but not impossible. I would have porridge and blueberries for breakfast, all sorts of different teas and water during the day, would snack on mushrooms and cherry tomatoes in the afternoon and then have a small version of whatever was being served at dinner.
Mostly this was fine, but I did keep being plagued by headaches. I eliminated all the possible causes (caffeine withdrawal, lack of hydration, lack of salt) and was still getting them. So, I've started to skip breakfast (just instant coffee with milk), have miso soup at lunch, snack on celery and cottage cheese in the afternoon and have the small dinner in the evening. Headaches seem to be sorted!
I didn't lose weight every week, but there was always some other measurement to help me stay motivated - waist, body fat, thighs.
I'm not sure about how I'll try and maintain. I think maybe I'll try a couple of mini-fasts each week. It's good for me to fast as it resets my control-over-food button. I might actually try to fit in a bit more exercise too.
My BMI is nowhere near as low as some other people's, but it is now in the healthy range and this is right for me (and OH said to me only this morning that he didn't want me to lose anymore weight!!).
This WOL/WOE has been perfect for me, this forum is THE BEST!!!! Thank you to EVERYONE who contributes and to Moogie and her helpers who set it up in the first place.
All the very best for everyone else.
Btw, chocolate really is my alcohol - I gave it up almost a year ago now ...
