Delighted or Disappointed?

9 posts Page 1 of 1
Hello fellow fasters

Following on from my journey last week to buy some clothes, I went to Romsey yesterday to get another bra fitting & nose round the shops. I normally get fitted at Bradbeers in Romsey, fab lingerie section :like:

Just to re-cap, (to save those not wanting to read my lonnnnng post linked below, I can’t blame you!), started mid June, now 28.4LBS down and size 18/20 top, 18 bottom, to 14/16(bottom).

http://www.52fastdiet.co.uk/delighted-or-disappointed-f23/its-official-nothing-fits-and-i-am-smaller-t8799.html

Popped into M&Ko at 9am, picked up 4 size 14 tops…. Would appear it wasn’t a fluke from last week, I am a 14 now on top ! Didn’t buy anything yet as I had a bra fitting lined up at 9.30am.

As I suspected, sizing was slightly different to what M&S measured me last Friday. Still down a size, but same cup, but low and behold, I have choice ! Not just black or nude ! Pretty styles…. Wow :victory: So bought a couple to tide me over the transistion.

Time to trot round the store. Bradbeers is an independent dept store, with quite a varied choice of brands, styles, ages etc. Very pleasant to walk round as is Romsey.

First problem, oh dear, S,M,L,XL… now I am stumped :?: Coming from an XL at a minium, what size do I try now ! 12,14,16 are easier to work out! Asked for some assistance and it’s a cross between M&L, depending on cut.

Armed with that I try a few tops on. Grabbed a 14 tunic which looks great on the hanger. Looks okish on, slightly big, but there is no way a 12 is gonna work….. is there ?????

Throwing caution to the wind, I grab a 12… game for a laugh. Hold on… its fitting better than the 14… maybe 3 weeks to fit perfectly.

Asked the sales lady, do I look big in this… She said there is no loose material at the back of the tunic (12), looks great. Explain my situation and weight loss, and ask her to look at me with the 14 on. Straight away she said, oh no, way too big. Lots of excess material at the back

I can see this ‘clothes fitting body shape’ is going to have to grow on me, instead of disguising myself !

Popped that to one side as they only had one of each size in stock, and carried on wandering. Now even more confused, do I pick 12 or 14, or both. Would appear I am borderline in the middle! Finally tried a Wallis shirt on in M (medium eh :like: ), fitted ! I was wearing one of my news bras complete with labels still, so I could see the new shaping. Current bra makes me look like a sack

So two tops bought.

Head back to M&ko and grab the 14 and just to check, the 12’s (confidence grown a bit). 12’s still a smidge tight but not looking like a trust up turkey ! Stick with 14 though as I can wear them now and they are good value, so two tops from there.

Success all round

It was a beautiful day yesterday, so warm in the sun. Armed with purchases, I head off back to work for the afternoon.

Last night I decided, enough is enough, sort the flipping wardrobe out. Don’t have masses of clothes by any means, but when it came down to what sort of fits, only 5 things are left, and two items only actually fit.

Pile on the floor to donate to the clothes bin. Its crazy, my stuff is huge ! Tried a pair of crops on which were a fixed waistband (well low slung), and they were so tight in the summer, I didn’t wear them. Well they fell off, nothing to hold them up whatsoever.

So that is the end of my buying spree, but at least I can add a few more items to the 5 hanging in the wardrobe, and you never know, people might notice my weight loss at work

One tip, I did take pics in the changing rooms on my iphone, it can be interesting looking back at yourself through a picture. Liking the side view for once in many decades!

All of the sales ladies were interested in my 5/2 story and they knew of others who had great success as well. One common question they asked, but you can't eat much on the fast days, what on earth can you have for 500 cals. My reply, lots ! Its very interesting how much you can eat

Thankyou for reading everyone, probably be back in a few months with more stories to share, no promises of a shorter post though
It's weird isn't it - it can be really hard to think of oneself as smaller and to buy clothes that actually FIT. I still automatically think I'm an 18/20 and I'm a 14 now but that mindset is hard to shift.
As some who have read previous posts will know, I am Gill's partner.

I am so, so proud of her, and what she has achieved so far, and for the encouragement she has given me on my own 5:2 journey.

I'm already getting into shirts that haven't fitted in ages, and starting to look at my skinny jeans and thinking it is not going to be long before I can wear them again. Some of the jeans that were tight 4 months ago are starting to look very baggy.

Best of all, I really don't look at 5:2 as a diet, more of a healthy way of living.

It's brilliant isn't it! I'm having one of those periods where the scales have slowed down but something is definitely going on, picked up a pair of jeans in a store tod, european 42 and they fit! Can't believe it.
Fab fab fab!
Wa -hey Minigill! I had a big smile on my face reading this!

Hi Caroline

One regret I have, I didn't take measurements or pics right at the very beginning  I also avoided having my picture taken over the years, but will have a look and see what I can do ! My weight didn't change for years (remained heavy!), but I did gain in actual size.

Alot of pics I have taken at the end of August, I am not exactly wearing alot ! Not for public viewing, however I use the pose (stood in front of the full length mirror!) as a standard, and of course, the side view! :like:

Its feel totally alien and eyes still look for the 18's. Even when I was trying the 14 & 12's on, I referred to them as 18 at one point, until the sales lady queried my quote !
