Well – it’s been a year since I found this forum. I had read an article about 5:2 in the Mail on Sunday supplement and it sounded almost too good to be true. I was, at over 17 stone (on a 5ft 2in frame) possibly at the lowest point I had ever felt about my weight. I had always been a chubby child and as a teenager/student my weight settled at about 10.5 stone. I did get down to 9 stone 4lb when I joined Slimming World in my early twenties but I lost heart when I couldn’t achieve 9 stone and left and then proceeded to regain the weight. I had a few more ups and downs but fast forward to Christmas 2004, about 6 weeks before I was due to marry (the second time) and I was looking pretty good at 10 stone. However, the wedding in Sri Lanka was not to be – thanks to the Tsunami, so we went to Goa instead and I actually looked OK in a bikini. I regained some weight in 2005 so had to get it off again to fit into my wedding dress which had been fitted a year earlier but managed it with some frenetic exercise and going to Slimming World.
We got married on 15th Feb 2006 and it was downhill from there and in short I gained 7 stone in 7 years with a few ups and downs in between!
I don’t think I found fasting too difficult to start with – I wasn’t counting calories on “feed” days then – just fast days and my fast day meals were quite boring – usually an omelette or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. When I’ve only got a few hundred calories to use I’d actually rather not think too much about food, just have something which I know is within my allowance.
I lost weight slowly but surely, without fail (apart from a minor blip over Xmas) until the end of March (a stone and a half). Then I kind of lost the plot a bit and wasn’t really fasting and.........surprise surprise, by the time it was the end of July and I had got a grip again, I was back up to 16 stone (from 15-5). Anyway – I gave myself a stern talking to, signed up at the gym and really went for it! Since then I’ve lost 24 lbs so an average of 6lb/month, which I know isn’t huge, considering how much weight I have to lose but I accept that it’s the rate my body will go at. I have toned up a lot though so my shape is changing quite a lot.
Anyway – I don’t want to bore you all to tears but I must say that what has kept me going has been the support I have had from friends I have made here on the forum. I am blessed to live near enough to @Carieoates to be able to meet for the occasional coffee, and sometimes we venture further afield and meet up with @Wendydarling and have also had the pleasure of an East Anglia meetup with @Loulou51 and @Stowgateresident. I also have had a buddy @WestLondonChick although we have lost touch – must remedy that!
So – that’s a bit about me and my first year – I’m a pretty open book so if there’s anything you want to know – feel free to ask!
Thanks again to all my new-found friends here for helping me make this work!
