Delighted or Disappointed?

Hi All,

Just in case anyone missed me, I have been on holiday. Yayyyyy

Went to the Land of the Free where the variety is boundless, the portions huge and the hospitality second to none :like: Now, I am usually polite and try to eat everything I am given but this time I just couldn't. I ate until I was full and no more. I didn't have a plan and so some days I had breakfast and dinner and some days brunch and dinner, loosely 16:8, but there was wine, beer, snacks and sweets partaken of (be rude not to) but what I did notice was that I didn't eat more than two meals per day. I just ate as the opportunity presented itself. There may have been burgers, hot dogs, ice cream, the odd shared dessert and sweets involved but I deliberately didn't have any chain coffee house coffees with cream, it was hot so I was able to stick to iced tea and iced coffee. Coffee doesn't appear in my usual diet, let alone iced, but it was so delicious it will be making an appearance now. I wondered why you all keep going on about coffee, now I know :like:

Something struck me though......... there was a programme on UK TV recently (can't remember what it was called) and they ran experiments where two groups were given the same foods but one had more variety. The people in that group ate more. I am sure there is something in this as I am always dazzled by the variety when I am on holiday and find myself wanting it all and then some!!

Anyway, enough of the rambling and now down to the reason for this thread. In two and a half weeks, since the last time I was able to weigh........ I have gained 1lb. Yes one pound, that is ONE POUND. I expect this may vary up and down over the next few days, but I am delighted and surprised
Very well done Wendy Darling you have done much better than me on my last holiday. However I am going away in a couple of weeks in the UK where we will be largely self catering & we do usually eat out some evenings, but I am sure we can add in our usual fast days. So I hope that I will also manage to not put on much weight & gaining only one pound would be wonderful
Sounds as though you had a great time, and what good news to come home to :like:
Welcome back!
One pound after 20 days is fab!!!
I'm the opposite. The more variety I have, the less I eat. The only time that I didn't gain weight while on holiday was when I went All Inclusive and the meals were buffet style. I only had a spoonful of everything I wanted to try and that was it.
Glad to hear that you had a fabulous holiday and such a small weight gain! :like:

It's great to have stories like yours that show how sustainable this WOE is
Hey, welcome back and great to hear about your holiday. Well done only putting on a pound. It will be gone again faster than you will believe.

I have missed your posts even though I knew you were away so I'm particularly pleased to have you back x

Ballerina x
Well done Wendy Darling! Just goes to show there's more to this WoE than meets the eye (or mouth!)

 :clover:  :victory:
Thanks all, nice to have been missed  and the update is......... That pesky pound has gone. I am the same weight today as when I last weighed before the holidays.

I think this WOE just makes us subconsciously more mindful so self catering should be a doddle Isis, if you shop for the usual food for the self catering then you will be able to afford to eat out a few times.

Lol TML, our first week had a breakfast buffet included and it was so delicious that I did my best to try it all (although not all on the same plate at the same time!!)

Anyway, off to the shops now to stock up, quite looking forward to it
Well done Wendy Darling!
We're off again soon, but we think this way of life is so ingrained now, we'll carry it on whilst away.
You've shown it can be done!

And welcome back!
Wow! Thanks for sharing! That is awesome and very encouraging as I am off on my hols in September. There have been other similar posts to yours where people are reporting little or no gain so I find myself feeling less worried about how I will manage a good WOE whilst away.

Anne
That's fantastic Wendy. I'm also just back from hols and was amazed that I actually lost 300g. A loss, despite consuming a lot of alcohol and eating everything I fancied, apart from three alcohol and goodie free days The 5:2 WOE has definitely made a huge difference. I love it!
loved reading this as I'm off on holiday next week, only for one week so by your standard I'm expecting half a pound gain!
well done you!
Sounds like you had a fabulous holiday, mmmm, all that naughty food! Quite a lot of people have come back their holidays with little or no weight gain, does that mean that 5:2 really is changing our eating habits? That doesn't happen on a 'normal' diet.
Thank you Penny, good luck on your hols, have a great time, you know the routine now, it's second nature.
Thank you Anne, enjoy your hols, it'll be a piece of cake.
Thank you and well done Megashelley, brilliant isn't it? BTW, I am amazed at your weight loss, you started after me and have lost loads more. Fantastic, well jel
Thank you Sian, have a great time and yes, going by my standard you will lose it again in half a day, took me one day to lose that pound.
Thank you Wildmissus, yes I am sure it is a mindset thing and so easily sustainable because there is always tomorrow, or next week or month, whatever but so easy to climb back on board after a break. I know that my food choices have changed. I am so evangelical about this that I wanted to tell every overweight person I saw on holiday about this WOL. I didn't of course, that would be rude but you know what I mean.

Have just realised, I may have misled you all, I forgot...... it was a really busy holiday and we walked and walked, that may have had something to do with it. Sorry I didn't think of it before. Anyway, to everyone that is still yet to go on hols, have a great time, when I was away I kept thinking of a post from ages ago (can't remember who said it, sorry) but the gist was that you can't put on a whole lot of fat in a couple of weeks, any gain will be water or food in transit. That helped enormously, so keep that in mind and enjoy
