So I have been doing the diet for about six weeks and have lost about a lb a week. I have been very happy with that. This is the first time in my life that I have been on a diet or even paid attention to my weight. So the pattern has been weight loss during the week (fasting Monday and Wednesday) and putting some back on at the weekend (eating and drinking with abandon on Friday Saturday and Sunday!). Overall I lose about a pound. However the weekend just gone was particularly over-indulgent (it started on Thursday and involved take aways and beer) and my weight is up for a Monday morning. Question is do I just get back into the normal routine of two days fasting or do I try to do more this week to compensate for the extra weight?

Hello,
I wouldn't get too down about a blip and just carry on as normal with your two days of fasting.
But if it really bugs you, you could add in an extra day of fasting this week but there are never any certainties with dieting and you might not get the pay back you want.
I'd just put the weekend down to experience and get back into your normal routine and maybe just be extra careful with your feed day calories. Don't get down you are doing brilliantly!!!

Oh, I've done the same. Been doing this eating plan for 3 weeks now (Mon/Thurs) & not yet lost any weight So I've come to the fairly obvious conclusion I've been over doing it on the 'days off' !
I've not got too much to shift, maybe 7 - 10 lbs, but at this rate I'm going to have to add another 500 cal day. I'm keeping myself going by focussing on all the other health benefit stuff - cells repairing etc. Sigh.

Hi Michael
I wouldn't stress just get straight back on the horse. I think it depends on how you see 5:2, as a "diet" (ie short term) or a longer term commitment to healthy eating & living.
We all have 'real life' that gets in the way of best laid plans but can't beat ourselves up about it - it's just human.
I think half the battle is recognizing what we do and not continually repeating the same behavior. That said if you want a lower calorie non-fast day this week to compensate that won;t do you any harm and might make you feel better in yourself.

Hi - I've been doing this for nearly 6 months now and I wouldn't worry about your blip - just carry on as normal. You'll find other threads here in this forum that lead to the conclusion that there's little difference weight loss wise between 5:2 and 4:3 - so I wouldn't worry about it - as Beagle says - this is 'real life' - it happens
thanks guys … sorry if I gave the impression that I am down about it but I’m not. I fully accept that it was my choice just wondering what to do about it. I do see this as a long term thing and I don’t mind if it’s two steps forward one step back. However I am surprised to discover that it doesn’t matter if you diet for two or three days in the week. As I said I am new to the whole dieting thing and being aware of what I consume.
Sometimes a bit of feasting actually helps subsequent weight loss. Obviously not if you do it all the time but when I've had indulgent weekends I find the weightloss speeds up afterwards!
it seems you were right carorees! Despite the overindulging I am still on track and have still lost weight this week. It’s strange how this process seems to work. I did a bit more this week in the end by not eating on my in-between feed day (tuesday) until the evening. But this wasn’t difficult.
