Delighted or Disappointed?

Hi , I have been doing this since end August...to maintain really as I had lost 1.5 stone with ww...before I discovered this wonderful, thing lol...

Anyway...I have been on BP meds for just over 3 years...since I turned 40....my bp went so high...bordering in a stroke ...don't know why..as I had never had any problems before...and was a fit not overweight non smoker etc...I was told it was hereditary as my mum developed it when she was 40....shortly after that my mum died of a massive heart attack....so even although I had a cholesterol level of 5.2 I was put on statins at a preventative measure...I have been on all these meds since...but a few weeks ago I decided to ask doc if I could give coming off the med s a go....so for last 3 weeks I have been taking one bp tablet every three days....yesterday my bp was checked and was down to 128/74...she was delighted...I'm now off the meds and have to go back in three weeks....my cholesterol was down to 4.7...so going to try get off that next.....I'm a very fit person....don't smoke..drink moderately...healthy bmi ..waist size etc...so hopefully I'm off all the meds....my point is I was told this was a hereditary condition I could do nothing about....in still same weight fitness etc as I was...but only difference is my fasting.....fingers crossed I will be off all meds soon xxx
Greatish news, more like - you must be over the moon! It would be interesting to know if it is down to the weight you lost on WW or your new WOL. Possibly a combination of both? Whatever caused it , congratulations.
It's great to hear that you have had some brilliant results healthwise. I'm also hoping to be able to come off BP medication soon. After all the diet is promoted more from a health viewpoint than a weight loss one. Congratulations!
Sorry I was not very clear in my post...I was the same weight as i am now when I was diagnosed with the high BP.....I then put some weigh on..with the stress of my mum passing etc....so was only overweight for a short while...and my BP stayed the same xx
Excellent news!!!
Fantastic! Gives me hope my bp might eventually come down! You must be well pleased and relieved!
Thats amazing - well done!
Had my weekly weigh in today--still reducing, along with another 1% off the fat level (down from 39.3% to 33.8% in 8 weeks).
Under medical supervision, I am now off 2 out of the 3 diabetic medications, whilst glucose levels remain perfectly normal. Doctor halved my B/P tablet, BUT....the B/P is progressively getting lower and lower, readings of 90/60 are happening frequently.
I am gobsmacked, yet again this week. I have been told repeatedly that the trio of diabetes, high B/P and high cholesterol are inevitably only managed by medications, and that for me " you can make as many changes as you like to your type of diet, but your risks will remain the same". I think not, in fact I know not, so....... Next on the plan of action, under supervision, no more anti hypertensives, and out with the statins!! Now that last one will cause a stir with the medics, won't it.
That's so fantastic 150 lbs! Brilliant!
Please don't reduce any medication without your doctor's advice though! We have a family friend who thought that he could keep his blood sugar levels low with healthy eating and taking various herbs. He did for years but then his blood sugar hit the ceiling and now they can't reduce it even with medication! It's important to listen to our doctors (even if sometimes they make us mad)!!!
Well done the both of you :)
Thankyou, everyone. Yes, I am only doing this with medical supervision, but it is a hard road to tread, as mine seem to be stuck in a rut regarding accepting the results before their eyes. I appreciate where they are coming from, taking extreme caution. But, I am persevering, as I feel so well in myself now, and better equipped to discuss my health, and no longer accepting the NHS mantra. Every person has to find their own way of dealing with these things, and be sensible. Quick fixes don't exist.

You know it will! Statins are an evil all their own. I hope you are able to get off of them.

Congratulations on being able to get off of some of your meds!
I wonder how it is that our GPs seem never to have read all the stuff about statins that the rest of us have? Or, if they have read the case histories, they dismiss them as anecdotal. Strange isn't it, that a body of research-based professionals working in our NHS, can come out en-mass against the concept of statins being over prescribed in the majority of cases. It beggars belief, really, doesn't it. I am getting more cynical as each day passes.
