Don't be discouraged.
I weigh myself everyday and sometimes I weight 5 lbs more than I did the previous day!! (That time of month)
But it was gone again in 2 days and I'd actually lost an extra pound at the end of the week.
The body works in weird ways, focus instead on how you look and feel

That is the most wonderful thing about 5:2. The way it makes us feel. I feel like I've lost 10 kilos and I've only lost 3,5!!!

I'm a compulsive weigher currently.... I can fluctuate upto 3lbs and massively on the fat % too... I just treat it as food in transit and don't worry about it. For motivation - I always weigh after a fast day and those are the ones that I take most seriously. I see the next few days after that as my body trying to integrate that new lower weight before it allows me a further weight drop... Works for me...

Thank you for all your encouragement. I've started writing everything I eat into MyFitnessPal and I will monitor my calorie intake for a few weeks to see if that makes a difference. I've never calorie counted before so I was more than reluctant to start but I have to say, it feels quite liberating to know that I can eat things that would be banned on the SW diet because their syn value is too high if I make an allowance for them, so things are not as bad as I imagined. In fact, 1800 calories a day is quite a lot really!! If I stick to this on my feed days and I still gain weight, I'll know that the years of following the SW diet has messed up my metabolism but I will persevere to see if eventually my weight starts to drop.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Good luck to you all on your journeys.

Carole, I can't find the link right now because I am not on my computer but I posted a few days back a link to a TDEE calculator that shows less calories than any other but it seems more realistic than the others.
I promise to post it on Monday and if you get the time please check it out.

I don't think SW lends itself particularly to combining with fasting. It actively encourages grazing. I assume you are doing the Extra Easy plan? If so & you really want to mix and match rather than count calories I would suggest that on feast days you try and stick to the superfree foods for at least a third of your intake. I would imagine you would just have to join the rest of us on calorie counting for your fasts.

swisscal, there's a few of us around who are in the slow lane, so don't feel isolated. Check out some of my posts and also TracE's. I've never been a fast loser so I've just accepted it now and am not stressing about it. I've done about 8lb in 11 weeks so less than 1 lb/wk.

Hi Everyone,

First of all, thanks to you all for your great support, I really feel like I have friends I can go to when I am happy or sad who will understand what I'm going on about.

That said, now the good news - I've lost 2 kilos this week! I can't believe it's so much. I could feel I had lost weight and a few people commented on how I look but I never dreamed it would be so much.

I've obviously been taking the "eat what you like" mantra to its limits and it was nothing to do with my metabolism being messed up by dieting so for that I am very happy as now I know I just have to make sure my portion controls are normal and I'm not putting enough on my plate for two people.

What I've done this week is work out my TDEE which was given as 1800 so I've literally eaten around this amount for the five days, some days over, some days under as Caroline advised and then my 500 calories on the two fast days. Everything I have eaten I have put into MyFitnessPal so I could keep a track on things. And to be honest, 1800 calories is quite generous, I've been able to eat out (and have dessert) and I've swapped my diet yoghurts for some lovely creamy ones which stack up to 210 calories but what a treat  Some days I haven't been anywhere near the 1800 so I've sat in the evening eating one of these delicious things and felt very happy with myself. I've also changed my fast day from splitting the calories between breakfast and dinner to fasting all day and eating all the calories for dinner. This way, I have been able to have two very substantial meals and I think this is the way I'll do it from now on. So I've changed two variables and can't say for sure whether one in particular is responsible for the change in my weight loss or whether combined they've had the effect, but I suspect it is simply calorie counting which has seen such a weight loss.

Oh and one last thing, I've been getting recipes from the BBC Good Food website for dinners on feed days as they all have their calorie counts along with nutritional values per serving which for me has been a big help, plus I've cooked some new things this week. I even used one of their recipes for my first fast day this week - spicy falafel - delicious.

Well, thanks again for all your advice, without it I wouldn't have seen such a drop in my weight, I know that for sure. And for all of you out there who are losing slowly or gaining like I was, try calorie counting for a few weeks to get used to "normal".

I'm now off for a spa day as a reward :victory: Have a good weekend everyone.

Congratulations for your persistence and weight loss and well done everyone on here who has supported you through a very tricky time. Why don't you edit your topic title to '(I Was) Feeling Very Discouraged'? It might then encourage others in a similar situation. It really sounds as if you have found your path through this WOE - so onwards and downwards (with your weight)!
