I'm down 18 pounds in a little over 12 weeks today, and my BMI dipped just below 30 this morning for the first time in several years. So that feels good. Hopefully I'll be saying goodbye to Mr. "Obese" forever, and hello to Mr. "Overweight" from now on. (I don't think my ultimate goal weight will take me down below a 25 BMI with my build. When I get down another stone or so I might invest in one of those clinic tests where they dunk you and get an accurate estimate of my body fat percentage.)
I think probably 2 out of the last 3 pounds I lost this week was due to being sick, but I'll take the weight loss with the coughing -- better than all that coughing without any extra weight loss!
What I really hate about most weight loss advice out there is it usually comes in the form of "eat less and exercise more." Of course that is true, but wholly unhelpful. If you simply eat less, you get hungry. If you exercise more, you get tired.
What I really love about this WOE is that it showed me how to eat less and deal with the hunger that results from eating less, and it also helped my energy levels with respect to exercise by re-introducing my body to a state where I'm tapping stored energy (fat) more-readily while exercising rather than simply robbing my blood of its short-term sugar stores. In fact, exercise on a fasting day has proven to be a boon to both weight loss and my performance (I'm running).
Anyway, I hope this encourages some people (including myself) to keep at it. I had a few weeks where my weight loss stalled or where I even went up a pound or two, but overall I'm still clocking in at around -1.5 lbm/week on average. I assume this rate will drop somewhat going forward to under a pound a week, but I think that since it took several years to put on the last 50 pounds or so of extra fat, if it takes less than a year to get rid of it, the loss won't be sustainable.
