I am 5 weeks in now and have started putting weight back on. Last week I gained 0.5kg and about that again this week. The first weight gain I put down to Easter, this week I don't know. I have stuck to the fast days and found them quite easy for the first time this week, I haven't really had to think about them. I don't think I have overeaten on the feast days but obviously I have. i am going to keep a food diary for a week and see if that enlightens or helps me. I guess I have to find my own path through this and how my body adjusts etc. Inahve to admit all the positive stories are very annoying at times loke this! Bah humbug!!

Jayney. First up. I commend you for writing about your experience. We all gain from others input at this site. As a person who is enjoying the results of 5:2, let me just say...stick at it. It is incredibly effective. As you yourself have written..you do not think you have over eaten on fast days...I think a food diary is great approach on your part. I use ..my fitness pal...it is an app. To sometimes check on the calorific content of food.
Since starting this new lifestyle I have found myself drinking more water and have eased into a more active lifestyle. These changes kick started my improvement.
Jayney. Please stick at it. Once you start to loose, it becomes infectious.

Hi Jayney, I missed one fast and then ate and drank more than normal over Easter weekend. I kinda stayed the same that week but went up slightly the week after. I think sometimes there's a lag that happens, which I've seen with other diets, so don't worry it will come off again.
Hi Jayney,
You've shown that your body loses weight in repsonse to the 5:2 so I would definitely keep going with it. I definitely recommend looking at the feeding days as "healthy normal" rather than "feast" though!! It's too much hassle to count calories on normal days too, but as long as you're eating healthy food in normal quantities all should be fine.
If you're putting down weight gain to Easter I'm assuming you mean chocolate? If so, there is a difference with how sugar (and also alcohol) calories are metabolised compared to the kinds of food we're supposed to eat. If you minimise sugar and alcohol as much as possible on the normal days, you'll soon be back on track without having to track every calorie I have no doubt.

Please keep the faith!
The positive stories are here to remind us that we will have results, even if we are in a bad phase.

Thanks everybody for the encouragement. I am sticking at it and keeping my food diary, I do use My Fitness Pal but find it a bit tedious looking at calories all the time. I'll see if the food diary helps, it has already made me think twice today so hopefully that will last!
I think there can be a lag and there can be just random fluctuations!
Jayney, please don't be offended but I gather from your bmi that you have a few stone to lose - the more weight we are carrying, the bigger the normal fluctuations in our weight. I know from day to day I can vary by a few pounds. While its certainly a good idea to keep an eye on your feed day intake in case you're overeating, this extra couple of pound could just be normal variation in your weight and not an actual gain.
Do your scales also measure body fat and water? I find these readings really help me to see if a minor increase is just water weight.
Its only been a couple of weeks so just keep an eye on it. I'd only worry if it kept happening for 3 or 4 weeks. I've just had two weeks of maintaining, was worried it might extend to a third week, but just over half a pound of this week so back on track. I'm sure you will be soon too!

Jayne i agree with Moogie it could be just water retention i know when i have done other diets and know i have been good all week but put on. do not give up as hopefully next week you will have a loss, also i notice one week every month i have a week with no weight loss or put on even if i am good i think its do do with our monthly cycle
