Delighted or Disappointed?

I've been on this WOL for 7 weeks and had been losing a steady 1 pound each week. This past week I took a cruise to the Bahamas and with all the food available I knew I would gain some of those pounds back. I wasn't looking forward to re-losing it. I did not count calories nor did I try to make healthy choices - I just ate what I wanted. So the morning after I arrived home I weighed myself expecting the worst. You can imagine my surprise to find that I had actually lost 1/2 pound!

My appetite is much reduced - I looked at the massive amounts some of those people ate at the buffet and thought about how I used to be able to overeat just like them. And I could not do it without this forum. The sharing of issues here is critical to my success - Thanks !! :victory: :victory:
Wow! That is fantastic news. Lol To be able to lose while eating buffet, all that "all you can eat" and with so many choices. Ah, there is hope for me yet! :grin:

That's fantastic! I thought the only way to lose weight on a cruise was to get a dose of norovirus! Well done you!
eastbruce - that is amazing - really well done to you. I've done a couple of cruises over the last 5+ years and each time come back about 4lb heavier - so what you've managed to achieve is fantastic - have a :star: :smile:
Wow Granny you are amazing.. i am going on a cruise at the end of the year and yes long way off but wondered how it would be. its only for 2 weeks and yes the amount i eat on non fast days is lower than when i started. the amound some eat on the cruise is crazy. they call it an eating competition. again well done and i hope i can do the same.. lots or walking would help i think.

I'm going on a cruise in a weeks time around the Mediterranean for 24 days. I've been thinking long and hard how to not regain the hard lost weight. I thought I would stay away from the buffets (mostly) and eat in the restaurants as they serve much smaller portions. Last time we went on a Pacific cruise my teenager daughters would eat with us at the restaurants then disappear - we often found them "topping up" especially on desserts at the buffet. Luckily they,don't have weight issues.
I don't think I've ever heard of anyone actually losing weight on a cruise.
All my friends are saying "just expect to put on some weight EVERYBODY does
You can take it off when you get back!" but I don't want to expect that at all!
The only time that I didn't gain weight while on a holiday, it was when I was staying at a hotel with all you can eat buffets for breaky and dinner.
Since breaky was early and I was going to the sea/pool later on, I didn't eat much.
During the day I had a coffee and some light snack like a couple of handfuls of pretzels.
At dinner, I ate everything I liked but in very small quantities because I wanted to try them all (the Chef was very famous, inspired from the traditional local cuisine and everything he made was super delicious). As it seems, while I always order too much because I want to try them all, having them all there and taking only one spoonful of each was better diet-wise.

I am in the same boat as sootyjan (no pun intended). I hope that when I go I will be able to at least just maintain. It's only 9 days (followed soon after by a 3-day drive across the nullarbor) so hopefully I can make healthy choices! And the onboard gym will no doubt help as well!
When I went on a cruise many years ago, we were told the average gain is 7 lbs. I imagine it's even more now. So congrats on that amazing accomplishment!
