Delighted or Disappointed?

My husband and I returned from a fifteen day cruise on Queen Elizabeth, late yesterday. This morning we weighed ourselves and it was even worse than we were expecting. Nine pounds on for me and eleven pounds for him. Quite spectacular gains even by our standards!

How did it happen? Very easily, I'm afraid. Once on board, our plans for moderate eating disappeared and we simply got straight back into our old way of eating (constant food plus more alcohol than usual). We have undone a lot of the work we had put in since the end of January but we were determined to start back on 5:2 today.

We have successfully fasted today and I am hoping that we will soon be back to our pre-cruise weight. Please wish us luck! Now that I have reasonable internet access, I am looking forward to catching up on everyone else's progress - I have missed you while we have been away!
Hope you enjoyed the holiday . Bet some of the excess will go pretty quickly .
Nine pounds - amateurs. Bet I could do more!!!
Glad you had a good time, no regrets that's what this is all about.
I put on 4 kilos from Friday to Monday last weekend. Today 5 days later I'm back on track so it was mainly fluid due to an overload of carbs. Hang in there, it will come off!
Well done! That is certainly impressive but I bet, as nadiaj pointed out, that it is probably a lot of fluid. I know that bloody mary's in the morning and marguerita's in the afternoon have ALOT of salt not to mention the food. You'll soon be back to your svelte selves soon. :)
Opps! Glad to hear you enjoyed your holiday! I'm sure those lbs are temporary ones and you'll be back on track before you know it!
Spectacular - must have been fun :>)
Wow, I'm really impressed with that but if you're going to do, do it in style - it's a sign of a good holiday. The weight will be off in no time.
Thanks for posting StowgateResident, it's good to hear about the ups as well as the downs - on the scales, that is

The good thing is that with 5:2 we all have a sustainable strategy to get back on track, so no need to despair, we don't have to go in the naughty chair when this happens - just the fast seat!
Thanks for all your very supportive comments. I nearly didn't post yesterday because I felt that I had let not only myself down, but the whole 5:2 community! How glad I am that I did because you have all helped me to feel so much better about what is, after all, only a temporary weight gain.

We had a fabulous holiday and the difference this time is that we have the tools to get rid of the extra 'baggage' instead of it sitting there until no clothes fitted and we were forced into action! I got on the scales this morning (very unlike me because I am a strict 'once a week' weigher normally) and am already three pounds lighter. I know that this is only fluid but at least it's in the right direction and it is very encouraging.

I'm afraid that I can't sit on the naughty step today - too much ironing still to do! - but once again, thanks for your support and helpful advice. I just love this forum and this WOE!
As you rightly said on other diets you'd probably have thrown in the towel after that weight gain.
It's great we now have the tools to turn negatives into true positives.
I'm glad you had a great holiday.
I'll look forward to your next post to tell us all the holiday weight is gone! X
Haaa haaaaa I've done 5 kilos in 8 days so I beat you!

Seriously though, it can go as easy as it came of you start losing it immediately!!! I know that some might disagree but when it happens (it always does after a holiday in London) I reduce my calorie intake drastically till I'm back to my original weight. For the first day, I try to eat close to nothing, perhaps a couple of fruit just to keep me going and then as few calories as I can (yes, I did fast but didn't know it). Usually, with 500-600 calories daily, the weight went as soon as it came, in about a week.

Having been there maaaaaaany times, I will tell you not to worry and I mean it. Besides, a holiday cannot be good without coming back to a weight gain!!!
Dear StowgateResident,

I am SOOOO glad you feel better about your wonderful vacation. If you hadn't I would have dreaded mine - what horrors might await my return!

Thanks for posting and I look forward to reading your updates now! Take Care!
Hopefully the pounds will drop off in no time. Going on a cruise is not exactly an every day occurence is it? Glad you enjoyed your holiday:)
Aerobic ironing? Might boost things and sitting on the naughty step won't raise your heart rate.
Aaand lift that iron.....
