Delighted or Disappointed?

bit frustrated

Ok I am falling into the 'disappointed' category. I have been fasting for 6 weeks and I have shifted 1-2kg. I want some ideas on why this hasn't worked better. By way of background, I am not overweight to start with. 5'10" (178cm) and 142lbs (64kg). 48 years old. In regards to weight loss I want to shed 3kg. So our fasting days have consisted of small serve of porridge for breakfast, about 1/3c tuna with a couple of rice cakes and a small dinner of lentils, poached chicken and rocket salad. I don't cheat. Any snacks are cherry tomatoes and cucumber. I estimate that I have lost about 2kg. I do not over indulge on my non-fasting days- just eat normally. One idea I have is to move into eating my 500cals in 2 meals instead of 3. Any suggestions?? :?:

I'm sorry this hasn't happen as quickly for you as others here myself included( keep in mind I have heaps to loss). You could try moving to two meals instead of your current three.
I started with only two meals and now I'm down to a mid afternoon snack up to 150 cal. and main meal at night. It all a matter of what is best for you.
Saying that my mum still has three meals a day but she had to up her exercise and that seem to kick start her after a slow start( she is only has a couple of kgs to shift) also but she is quite a few years older than yourself, but maybe that may help.

You say you're not overweight to start with, that will probably be your answer then!
Would think the more you're overweight the easier it will be to lose some each week.

Toad why not put your stats into the progress tracker - easier if people can see your BMI etc - could well be that you have so little to lose

I have only lost 2lbs in 6 weeks, but looking at the food you eat on your fast day find that it would be far too many carbs for me. I have also been having porage for breakfast, but have a salad for lunch and chicken and lots of veggies (no potatoes) for my evening meal. My metabolism doesn't like carbs at all!

I was like you - not overweight to start with but the weight came off fairly easily for me and I lost 6 kgs in 8 weeks. I kept rigidly to fast days with only one meal in the evening and cut down on carbs the other days (never eating them in the evening). Maybe you need to cut down a little on food intake on your non fast days too?

You say 'estimate' 2kg loss - have you not tried one of the tracker apps like Libra which can produce a smooth trend line from daily weighings, which enables a better indication of what is happening. Anyway, 4.5 lbs in 6 weeks is not a bad loss rate - the average his only 1 lb per week across all 5:2 and some have lots more to lose... Don't Panic!, as the Hitchhikers Guide would say...

ok good. thanks for your thoughts. My BMI is 20.2. I am going to go for the 2 meals. I see what you mean about carbs- I was going for good value in the cals and not getting hungry (having a word blank moment... what do you call that?) anyways I will try a lower carb fast and 2 meals. Thanks!!
