Delighted or Disappointed?

Feeling heavier today so I hopped on scale just now. FIVE ponds since Tuesday weigh in! What the heck. I know weight bounces around a bit but 5 seems a little(a lot)to me. Have I been eating in my sleep? Fasted three days last week and three this week including today. I have not binged in months. No walking though as the heat has been oppressive. Seeing family over weekend that I haven't seen since Christmas and I really wanted to show off but now I will never be able to fit in my new size jeans. I am very worried that this is a real gain for me.
Don't panic! This cant be a real gain, if 3500 cals = 1 pound you would have had to eat an extra 17500 cals since Tuesday to gain 5 pounds, it's just not possible! I don't know what it is, but it can't be fat!!
Clairemarie, I would think it impossible to actually gain five pounds in three days while fasting. I had a gain (my first) last week and it has evened itself out this week.

Drink lots of water. I learned (on this forum) that drinking less water or being dehydrated causes you to retain the water you already have.

Suck it in and get into those new pants, or treat yourself to a slightly bigger size. You've still lost almost half your weight to your goal and that is something to be celebrated!
Nicky, glad you pointed out the math. There is no way I could have consumed all that. just thinking maybe my scale is retaining fluid from the heat and humidity?
5:24evr that is what I thought. Impossible. There has to be something wrong with the scale. Just did waist measurement...up by .75.
Water retention?? There was a post about water retention and the heat somewhere...
Clairemarie I put on 4lbs in one day, amazing, kicked the scales in disgust! Lost it all the next week though, scales back in favour :) scales are evil, don't always believe them, they lie!

Don't forget looking good is 95% attitude!
Should have titled the post "The lying scale". It is my scale that has water retention! And for the family gathering I will walk tall head up just like when you have that perfect walk.
Enjoy your weekend with your family & relax! It is probably fluid retention causing your weight gain because you may not be drinking enough fluids.
I am still working through this myself with probably getting dehydrated travelling by air back from Scotland & I had gained 8 1/2 lbs! But I am already 5 lbs down in six days after concentrating on drinking more water. So I have probably only gained a couple of pounds in my fortnights holiday & nearly fell off my unhelpful scales when I stood on them last Sunday.
Hope you have a brilliant weekend in this lovely sunshine
I was just thinking the same as Nicky_94. If you're having the same kind of hot summer as we are, then it could well be that x
I think scales can be a nightmare! I tend to weigh myself most days, largely out of interest to see what's going on. Today I had to weigh the cats as they needed their flea treatments, so stood on the scales to weigh them. I am normally 10 stone 2,so imagine how horrified I was when the scales went up to 10 stone 12! I couldn't have put ten pounds on since this morning.

It turns out that moving my scales slightly gives a hugely different reading. I'm sticking with the 10 stone 2 and praying that it's right!

Even if it's not right, I'm sticking with the 5:2 and I know it will come off eventually.
Totally agree with 5:24evr? Water is so important, dont like the stuff my self but drinking loads of it fills you up..Hated the sparkling, however it seems to fill me up more..Also agree with the position of scales,we have wood floors, carpet & tiles All different readings!! So now only get weighed in Boots The Chemist Hang in there Can not be right Lots of Luck x :clover:
Well it did hit 100 degrees F today. It has been a horribly hot week. I had this issue a couple of weeks ago with heat and gained/lost 3 pounds. I will have to agree about the water. I preach it so now I'll have to drink it. I had been doing the ice tea/coffee thing but I am going to pump up plain h2o. And if it is the fat return then I will plod along 5:2 and hope for a better next couple of weeks. I should be at the beach but it's too hot for that...Thanks everyone
Last night I took a good dose of Metamucil. This morning 3 of the five mysterious pounds are gone. Guess I was retaining more than water weight. I now feel physically better as well. Also, I am going to refocus my energies to the overweight mark of 174ibs. I will be thrilled to see it hopefully in the near future.
That's great, clairemarie! Now you know for next time when the scales lie. Us daily weighers must relax when we see a large fluctuation in either direction...with 5:2 it's sure not to last!
