A bit of a shock!
13 Aug 2013, 19:38
I've took delivery today of 3 kettle bells. 4kg,8kg and 12 kg. Ii wS a real effort tocarry the 12kg upstairs. The shock is that it's less than I've lost! I feel so much fitter having lost some weight but I have a long way to go. How fit will I feel once I've lost 30 kg?!

On a more serious note, I've done a lot of research into using kettle bells. Can anyone recommend a good website for complete beginners. I want to focus on Fat burning toning up and core strength. I am aware how important good technique is and would appreciate some guidance. Hope someone can help x

Well done, Esta on losing those 12kg... It is scary when you realise how much you used to carry around. When you lose 30kg, I'm sure you'll feel absolutely amazing. I've lost 20kg over the past few years and I am a different person in terms of general mindset, how I'm seen at work, confidence as well as fitness. I feel like I can achieve anything or give anything a go since I know I am fit enough to do it.

Kettlebells are great but it's worth looking for some body-weight exercises too. Things like tricep dips, push-ups, planks and lunges (even done at the easiest level for now - on knees etc) are great for building core strength too - on non-kettle days.
I remember my first day in a gym class with tricep dips and struggling to do 1 even moving about an inch at most. For the past year or so, I can do them with 10kg on my lap with a full 6 inch range of motion... it truly feels great.

You'll get there too... and enjoy it so much!

There will be bodyweight exercises on the linked website. It's a very helpful site.

Love swinging kettle bells. (-:

I've never heard of kettlebells either. Congratulations on your weight loss, and I'm also impressed that you managed to carry them upstairs.

Thanks Applespider. And congrats on your weight loss too. Quite amazing. Despite my bulk I am quite fit. I walk my dogs, English pointers, for 2 hours each day and make sure I complete 10,000 steps. I also swim 1500 m three times a week. I wanted something I could do at home as I'm not yet ready to face a gym. And also something my husband, who is tall and slim, and can eat anything! could do as he is pretty sedentary. Interestingly he is the one with high cholesterol. He works long days so would of find time for the gym. Every time I feel tempted to eat when I'm not really hungry I shall pick up my kettle bell and focus on what I've achieved rather than how long it is going to take to get to a healthy BMI ,

Good for you, I really fancy kettlebells, but worried about getting the technique right and there's no classes in my area which is a shame as they look fab when you see people using them. Let us know how you get on :0)

Will do.. I know technique is key. My OH and I are going to coach (criticise?) each other. I'm hoping that my bingo wings will be kept in check too. There are a lot of very good videos on line. I'm going to start with the basics - which are kettle bell swings. If it doesn't work out I've got 3 very expensive door stops! At least they are nice colours!
