Could be a silly question.....
23 Jul 2013, 17:34
So ive just gotten myself back into going to the gym as i stopped for a fews weeks. As i was working out i thought of a question.
If you are fasting and only allowed 500 calories, then you burn off, just say 200 calories, does that mean you are allowed to have 700 calories or do you just stick to your 500. At the moment im just classing it as extra burnt calories.
What are your thoughts?
I would think you stick to 500 calories and loose weight a little quicker than if you don't exercise.
NO, NO, and thrice NO! The good Dr MM said NOOOOOO! I understand that you should stick to your 500 calories whatever you have done during the day, be it given birth to Royal quadruplets, rowed across the Atlantic single handed or won the Tour de France, it is still 500 calories, sorry!

Hi and welcome:

Stick to 500. Your TDEE included your activity level.
I consider exertion-based calories as a bonus reduction, not as a reason to eat more.

Likewise I look at fast day exercise as directly burning fat since there' little glucose or glycogen to go through to get to it.
Agree with the others, you don't get to eat the calories burned. Honestly, if you are in this for weight loss, what would be the point? ;)
Welcome Princess. I agree with all posted above. I've never understood the point of eating back the calories exercised off (unless it's something extreme like a marathon where the muscles need to be repaired) when trying to lose weight.
thanks everyone for your replies. i did think that was the case, hence the title. just wiseful thinking i suppose
It's not a silly question at all! It's been asked lots of times and will be again. That's the point of this forum, ask away!!
