I see you almost have the bit between your teeth..... I'll get me coat.....
Great photo and well done!
Well done Jane!

Did you give 5:2 a "big up" (I think that's the modern parlance) in the article?

I DID - I made SURE I did! But sadly they've edited my written word and removed the references to 5:2 fasting.... I guess they can't be seen to endorse one particular WOE.... booooo... bad form! Other than that, the article is pretty much word perfect to the email I sent them.....
Oh wow, I got my WR mag today and was just reading your story! Really well done you :0)
That's fabulous, well done and hopefully that'll encourage others to join the "running gang"
Another post gone AWOL! :frown:

Congratulations @Domane on being published. I Managed to miss this thread earlier this month.

When flicking through my copy, delivered this morning, I thought "that face (on page 38) looks a bit familiar". When I saw this thread an evening of puzzling over why the face was familiar was averted.

Well done.
Congratulations! That must feel great!!
Brilliant, you must be so chuffed!
How very exciting! I can't wait to turn 50 thanks to you!!
Xxx
Domane, is there a link to your story on their website?

Well I subscribe so I've got my copy early. It isn't on general release until Thursday. To be honest, they don't tend to put stuff from the mag onto the webby... I guess they want people to buy it to read it!

However, this is the exact transcript of the email that I sent to her and apart from the references to SW & 5:2 the article is pretty much word-for-word.. if that helps? (And thank you for being interested enough to want to actually read the words :like: )

Hello Chris, I saw on your FB page about your forthcoming 50th issue and wanted to let you know that a month before my 50th birthday last June, I looked in the mirror and didn't like what I saw. I was overweight and unfit, despite having 4 horses. That day - 11th May 2013 - I decided that I wanted to be fifty and fit, not fifty and fat. I'd spent years yo-yo dieting on Slimming World and decided that THIS would be the year that I lost the weight for good. So I decided to try running - for the first time ever in my life.

As luck would have it, that very same day, a friend on Facebook announced she was doing a Race for Life later in the year and a friend of hers suggested the Couch to 5K training programme. I'd never heard of it but searched the internet and decided it would be a perfect way for me to train. I also signed up for a Race for Life, so as to have something to stay motivated for. The very next day I went out.... day one, run number one. And although I found it hard to sustain running for a whole 60 seconds, after my session, I knew I was hooked! I'd always been one of those who screwed my nose up at runners but suddenly I was joining running forums, buying Womens' Running magazine and checking out trainers and all manner of running gear!

And I stuck with it. I've always hated the rain but I find I run better in it! I sailed through my Race for Life in July in a great time of 35 mins - for a newbie 50yo I was so proud of this. I always said I'd never be interested in running over 5k but - as us running addicts know - my distance has gradually increased, with 14km currently being my furthest....

I amended my diet through my journey and ended up calorie-counting and 5:2 fasting but from May 11th to October 8th I lost 47lbs, dropping from a size 16 to a size 8-10. (Pics attached) Losing the weight wasn't really the issue as I've lost it before, but maintaining it from October is the thing I am most proud of as I've never been able to do this in the past.

I run approximately 3 times a week. I'd like to get out more my body seems to need the rest days. But I can't emphasise enough how much I love running. I get a greater high from a good run than a chocolate biscuit these days.

So whilst I took up running as an aid to losing weight, I've now discovered a wonderful new way of keeping fit and healthy...... and I hope to keep it up for many years to come.

I just thought I'd share my story with you as it seemed appropriate to your request.

Best regards
