I am so pleased with myself today!!

I have an ambition… and it is to be able to RUN….yes run….the Breast Cancer Research ‘Race for Life 5k’ in the next couple of years.

Now for someone of my age who hasn’t run for 40+ years this is a BIG thing.

To this end I’ve downloaded all the info and podcasts from ‘Couch to 5k’ ..and..

I just did Week 1 Run 1!!!!….and on a fast day too :D

This involves walk 5 mins and then run 1 min /walk 1.5 min 8 times in total. Doesn’t sound a lot, does it?? :D

It wasn’t nearly as bad as I imagined. At the third minute run my legs felt like lead, at the fourth minute I didn’t think I could go on but I gritted my teeth and saying ‘I-can-do-this’ on each step I got to the end of the minute. After that it got slightly easier with each run minute. And I did all eight minutes!!!

I am so pleased, I thought before I started that if I could run for 4 of the minutes I’d be happy for the first try……but I did it all!!
Hi there Sylvestra,

Already congratulated you but here i am again lol, well done you!!! ( ps feels like deja vu this :-) )
Congratulations! What an achievement! No wonder you are so pleased about it! Here is a gold star for you! :star:

No. What you did deserves more than that! :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: :star:
Oh sylvestra , you must be soooo proud of yourself and justly so! That's a great achievement so many congratulations! :like: :victory: :victory:
Awesome! C25K is great. I have started it a few times. I haven't gotten through it, just because life has gotten in the way. But, this year I plan to really do it. I do a 5K at the end of April. In the past I've had to walk/run it, but this year I am going to run the whole thing!

Some of it is definitely just mental, so talking yourself through it helps!

Good luck!
Well done @sylvestra. I completed it last year to get back into running and I'm using their Stepping Stones podcasts to try and get a little faster as I am very very slow. Hoping to run Race for Life again this year with my workmates. Good luck the programme really works if you trust in it and there is loads of support on the Health Unlimited website or the FB page. The running thread on this forum is also very useful. :)
Well done :like: :like: :like: :like: :like:
That is really an achievement and i admire how you took up the challenge and ran with it! X
Congratulations! Definitely a great achievement! I've heard great things about the program. Some day I may do it - right now I stick with walking!

Take Care and keep us posted!
A massive well done from me, did you know there's a C25K group/thread on here. Go there and we can all run C25K together
I know exactly how you feel. I've just started back after 6+weeks off. Now on week 4

Keep at it
Congratulations & well done :star: :star:
 Well done @sylvestra And Congratulations what an amazing achievement you should be very proud of yourself thanks for sharing and I hope to follow in your footsteps but obviously not yet a while.
Well done !!!

I warn you though it is addictive (isn't it @carieoates and @Domane?) :like:

Uh-oh..... slippery slope, I tell you....

Well done on your first outing. :like: I started C25K last May, a month before my 50th birthday and having never run a step in my life - indeed I was one of the mockers of runners too! I only tried it as a means of speeding up my weight loss... and fell totally in  I hit my target in October (and did a R4L in July!) but I still run 3 or 4 times a week now. I laughed when I finally achieved 5K and all those accomplished runners told me I'd be aiming for 10K next.... but they were right.... my longest run to date is 14k.
oh well done sylvestra! My lovely non diving daughter started this last year. I did one or two with her when she came out for a break- she had the instructions and just shouted at me!
I have done no running since. She is doing the RAK half marathon when she comes out in 2 weeks! I'm amazed and so proud of her achievement. She ran 15k last week in a force 8 age and rain in memory of a lass in America.
You too could do this now you've started.
Well done
Nice work!!
