Getting Sweaty! Exercise & Fitness

Exercise and Arthritis

I suffer from very painful osteoarthritis of the knees and ankles which substantially limits my mobility and makes it virtually impossible to exercise - I can't walk very far or stand for any length of time (so frustrating!). I used to be very active, strong and vigorous - 3 years now I've had this condition which came on almost overnight.

Anyway, I'm always on the lookout to find ways of increasing my mobility and someone has suggested rebounding. I like the idea because it apparently gives you a very low-impact workout but I've also heard a few conflicting opinions online about its use with arthritic joints and so I can't decide whether to invest in one or not. I won't get a cheap one so it's a substantial outlay for me.

Does anyone have any experience of the effectiveness of rebounding for joint rehabilitation?

I asked a similar question last week. I'm starting off with a Lesley Sansone 1 mile walk

I think rebounding would be too much for my knees to start with, as there needs to be a bit of flexibility in the joint when landing.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the link Pennyforthem - sadly, I can't even do this basic step exercise at the moment but am hoping one day I'll be able to. Hope you make good progress though - do you also have arthritis?

The idea of the rebounder is that you build up very gradually and at first your feet don't actually leave the surface of the trampoline so there is no actual 'landing' as such - don't think my joints could cope with that either!

Hi,

I just walk my dogs I'm very slow and started with just 15mins at a time. I can now walk 4 miles a day though I have got faster I'm still pretty slow. Being slow has its advantages as I really enjoy walk around my local park.

What ever you do start of slow and enjoy it it will get easier.
