Getting Sweaty! Exercise & Fitness

I'm new to 5:2 but in the past have lost weight without exercising. I've never "dieted" successfully, even short term. I've lost weight with changing my way of eating...becoming vegetarian, then vegan, then cutting processed foods...that sort of thing. The weight would creep back on because I like to eat and eat a lot and would occasionally fall of the wagon and eat junk. I'm hoping that 5:2 helps me to break that pattern.

So yes I've lost significant weight w/out exercise. About 30 pounds which got me down to the best weight for me at which point the weight loss stopped on it's own.
I've always used exercise in the past to help lose weight but since going the fasting route I haven't done any extra (to be brutally honest I'm pretty sedentary...) I've found that previously I'd get into dieting and exercise but found it was two things to keep up and I always failed on both counts.

This time I've actually lost more weight and faster than in previous diets and my intention is to start to work exercise into my life gradually with a view to it helping me keep things under control when I ease off the weight loss. Time will tell if it works in the long of course

I love exercising but honestly it only helps you tone your body, it's not absolutely essential for weight loss. You can definitely lose inches though :)
I've lost all mine (stone and a half) without increasing my exercise!
I think the important thing is that if you are overweight / obese then exercise can be a a life saver. I have a BMI of 34 so am well into the obese range but at 56 years old and despite having a genetic predisposition for high blood pressure, my blood sugar is normal, cholesterol 3.1, liver and kidney function normal and my heart is fine. I put it down to not driving - I walk or cycle virtually everywhere. The nearest bus stop is 3/4 mile away so just a round trip to "town" involves at least a mile and a half of walking. When I add in the dog walking, some days I walk nine or ten miles without thinking about it. The problem is that I am still "chunky" so whilst exercise is great for your general health, if you still eat too much it doesn't do much for the wobbly bits!
