8 posts Page 1 of 1
Hi
i want to start doing this but am unsure whether i need to get hand weights or not, I have a set that i used for Zumba i think they might be 1.5k each but i cant remember. Would that be enough or should i get a 2k or even 3k weight - i dont want to build muscle just tone it up
my upper body strength used to be quite good as i previously did pole fitness classes unless about this time last year

as heavy as you can manage is the best. You won't gain muscle in a calorie deficit especially as you're a woman.
The trainers in the vid use 5lb weights. 3lb weights are suggested to start off with so I would use your 1.5 kg ones and see h ow you do. When you get to the second ten day set the exercises change and they are hard on your arms, so I would see how the 1.5kg does before trying heavier ones. The extra resistance form weights really tones it you don't bulk up - Tis a hormonal thing with us females ;)
Have fun with it and let us know how you get on. Good luck
I'm using 1.5kg, but I hadn't been doing any strength training at all before starting the 30ds. Good luck.

If you don't gain muscle in a calorie deficit, why do we sometimes ascribe a weight gain as being "putting on muscle", as it weighs more than fat.
I've got 1,5 kg and I find it quite tough on my arms towards the end of the excercises, I was even considering buying lighter ones!!
Why not try it with the ones you have and see how you go?
thanks all
will try the existing weights before getting nay other but will have to put the shred on hold while this damn ankle heals

Muscle can be built on a calorie deficit but its a massive struggle to do so!

As the bodies first line of defense against calorie restriction is to use muscle before burning fat it involves eating more protein and doing resistance exercises.

Mostly the saying you haven't lost anything because you've gained muscle is an old wives tale based on the knowledge that muscle is heavier than fat (by volume)
