I have started to do Zumba classes I go once a week and on looking on MyFitnessPal note that an hour of Zumba done vigorously can burn off nearly 500 cals ! Do any of you do this exercise and do you do it on your fast days? The classes are only on Mon and Thurs which are my fast days so I have no choice. Before doing this I do tend to have a couple of Kallo rice cakes with low fat philly on at lunchtime and then have something light (around 350 cals) when I get home. I don't take off the 500 cals that I have burned at Zumba does anyone else do this?

I'm looking to start zumba too, just need to give myself a kick up the bum to actually get there! Is it as fun as it sounds?

Hello - yes I do Zumba on a Saturday morning and I love it! Saturday has never (yet) been one of my fast days... but I don't eat breakfast before the class.I have been doing it for over a year now.

Miss Lemon, I really recommend Zumba and yes, it is great fun.

Also, I started a new fitness/dance class yesterday evening, which is a fast-paced exercise/dance routines to 70s/80s disco music and this does coincide with one of my fast days. I was slightly worried about what time to eat my evening meal as, from experience, it is uncomfortable to do a class with the food still in my tummy. I ate at 5.30 and the class started at 8pm and I did experience a bit of discomfort so next week I may try having something like soup - or changing my usual fast day method of no breakfast/light lunch/dinner to breakfast/lunch/no dinner.

I enjoyed the class immensely (although my coordination is not what it was when I was younger) and I am sure that I burned off quite a lot of calories!

Oh Yes Zumba is great fun and as it is a dance class doesn't feel like you are working out IYKWIM. I have joined loads of gyms over the year and apart from the classes working out in the gym bores me to death not to mention the lack of motivation that working out on your own brings. I myself need to have someone giving me a kick up the backside to get me going! Think of Zumba as a good old hour of high energy fun dance on a night out LOL ! Enjoy !!!

i love Zumba, am hampered with a knackered ankle at the moment - well the last 4 months - not Zumbas fault tho.
Def receommend again i didnt do it on fast days but never had breakfast before class on saturday and often did not have anything till mid afternoon on a saturday

i miss zumba - but have ankle exercise to build the strength back up so hiopefully will be back at it soon

go for it, whats the worse that can happen?

I'd be a bit wary of the claimed calorie count for Zumba. Unless your heart rate is up at the 80% mark for an hour, or you're a giantess, it's unlikely that you'll burn 500 calories.
I did a few when I used to use a heart rate monitor and it averaged 350-375. Admittedly, I'm quite fit so my heart rate wasn't as elevated as it gets in other classes.

Still... so long as you're sticking to your fast quantity, it should be irrelevant. My sis adds on her exercise calories on her ADF but on 5:2, I don't whether it's just my regular cycle commute or whether I've done a gym class or two on top.

Those of us over 60 or beginning exercisers might want to find a Zumba Gold class: http://www.todaysgeriatricmedicine.com/ ... 1_02.shtml

Our exercise instructor told of a local elderly woman who broke her ankle when trying to keep up with a regular Zumba class--got her feet twisted up together and fell. Zumba Gold apparently goes at a somewhat slower pace so that seniors can safely participate.

I.am 67 and do a regular Zumba class on the evening of a fast day, don't eat till I come home at 8.30 I love it and it fairly passes the evening quickly. I also walk 5 -8 miles in the morning of my fast days. Doing exercise on a fast day is great and I have read that you burn fat better.
